if it was turning off how did it erase every file? I highly doubt that every file has been erased, and it may just be the operating system that is hosed.

Good luck, would not want to be in your shoes. I do this type of work professionally, and it is a pain in the a**

do you have any type of av/firewall running?

try out kaspersky... i had panda, i didnt notice anything, but alot of people say it slows your machine down alot.

and when you finally do get the virus out or do a clean install of windows... install all the basic programs you would want and make an image of your c-drive.

I was downloading War of the Worlds. Then all of a sudden it stop downloading. and it said that my computer has just been
                      infected with the "something" Virus.
It was also running some sheriff anti-virus program
but i think that was part of the bug.
I tried running my Spybot but everytime i did, the computer
                      shut off.
It was a perfectly good hack in my opinion. DAMN THOSE BASTARDS
THEY SHOULD BE STABBED IN THE EYE!!!!!

free internet downloads are never free they often contain a virus with them that allows ppl to get crucial info on you or stuff outta of your pc....and they will eat information until the system crashes....such as files and data to run the system....you dont even have to be online for them to do it...so i would shut the whole thing down until you get the proper hardware to fix it...or extract it from the cpu...also you may wanna try to use the contro panel and go to add/delete programs and look for any unusual programs and pull them...clear your history and temporary internet files as these bugs can hide in all these places...we caught a trojan in a emulation site to download video games and it screwed with our pc pretty badly....good luck man...

first of all, where were you downloading the movie from?

and an easy way to make an image is to use norton ghost. its basically an exact copy of your c-drive that is compressed down into a smaller file... then, preferably, saved onto a different physical drive.

                          what you can try.

                          1.get new HD, say 100gb.
                          2.partition it, 20/80
                          3.install all necessary programs
4.use norton ghost and image the 20gb c-drive
                          5.install kaspersky or panda a/v
6.install old HD as a slave drive
                          7.run full system scan

if the information is still there, you should have access to it. if installing the old HD messed up your new HD, no worries... unplug the old slave HD and reimage your computer.

I managed to recover from all sorts of nasty attacks using Safe Mode and a variety of Norton products... Norton Systemworks and Norton AV 2005 work wonders! Sometimes you have to battle the computer to let you do anything though.
