    Ban Political Threads

    Hey all.

This is a fun forum....but I've noticed everytime a thread is posted that is even the slightest bit political, its gets burnded down and spirals outta control because of a few "know-it-alls". They became incoherent flame wars infested with "your and idiot", "read the news", and ""

Its like nobody can hold an intelligent convo because peoples emotions start boiling immediately. Sports coversations tend to do this too, but not as often.

I'm sick of seeing, "LOL, your a dumbass" comming from different oppinionated sides mouths, when half the time they both end up saying the same thing. Lets try to put some kind of a light ban, or low tollerance level to Political Threads.

Even when its the last thing you want, they end up being war zones full of explatives!

or just refrain from posting in those threads...
or just refrain from reading the threads period...

or just allow people to enjoy their freedom of expression- whether you agree with it or not is a different story.

absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

^^ Yeah I agree. Sorry for starting that last thread. I didn't mean for it to become a warzone/dick waving contest!

Its Possible.....but its very hard to get everyone on the same page. I mean, we have all different types of people with different personalities on this board. Ranges from all ages. If everyone was the same, this would be a very boring board. Also, everyone is on a different level of intelligence. Point is...no matter what, people will always have their opinion.

I have no problem with political or controversial threads, just the people that get overly worked up about them. If someone says something you don't like, why get all upset? Just let it go, or respond intelligently. If you feel someone is misguided or uneducated, then guide them! Educate them! If you MUST say something, make it productive. Make it a positive force on this board, rather than the destructive types of comments 92accordlxtuner refers to above. If someone makes an uneducated statement, rather than call them an idiot, educate them. Chances are that will make them feel like more of an idiot than a simple "you're an idiot" would!

For example, take nycxeracer or uncle_el. Both have their own ways of participating in touchy threads in a positive manner. NYC will argue extensively, but only when he has a firm grip on the subject matter. el rarely argues, but simply offers short replies (and links! can't forget the links!) that cut right to the heart of the matter.

Im glad I stopped participating in threads like that. I finally learned not to open my mouth unless I know a good bit about the subject. Now I just hope everyone else can learn the same.

Yeah, but sometimes, nomatter how hard you try, they turn in flame-fests.

Like Deev said, everyone has a different oppinions, and just because you don't agree doesn't mean they are an idiot.

I just wish we could have a convo about something important here once in a while with out it turning into a circus. oh well...

Every now and then we do... I mean, this here is actually a fairly touchy subject (anything concerning conduct and what should be allowed on the board is always a hot debate) and we're keeping it civil. This is how I like to see things! I suppose it's easy to be disrespectful to someone simply because you're hidden behind a computer screen. We'll always have those e-thugs around... What REALLY bothers me is when the usually intelligent people stoop to their level! I honestly feel the loss of respect when someone I hold in high regard feels the need to post something like "your a ***." (grammatical error and all... )

^whats scary is when the you stumble into the wrong e-hood (board) and get murked.com by some e-gangsters (old school members aka o-g's).

thank god we don't have that here
some boards are infested with e-thugs!

at least we are civil most of the time

We have our thugs, but they keep it reasonable for the most part. It DOES get irritating when noobs ask the same old questions over and over again, but thankfully we have good guys like uncle_el that set the proper example. He's rarely rude, and always gives some sort of helpful link... I think I've seen the man get short with a noob twice in my life!

Some boards have thugs that think anyone that hasn't been around for years doesn't deserve their attention. I don't think we have any of that here. The most we have are people that have a low tolerance for "simple" questions. Honestly, if someone wanders into the swap forum and asks "What motor can I put in my Accord?" they deserve a little bit of rudeness! Simply because the information is NOT hidden on there. If they come on and ask "What's the best cam regrind for an F22A1 with an automatic transmission?" THEN I would understand. I know that topic has been covered, but it's not so glaringly obvious... If I didn't KNOW that it's been covered, then I would probably ask that myself if I wanted to know!
