In The Wrong Hood....

to night i had to go to an area that i drive through on a regular basis, but never took the tyme or had the reason to investigate area before. well tonight i had to run down there to pick up something... of course i get a bit lost. ended up in a place that looked like THE HOOD.. seriously like Compton or the Ghetto. and i had to pull over on the side of the road cause one of my projectors wasnt workin. and had to play with the wire to get it to kick on. smelled like weed tough when i hoped out the car. didnt look around, not thinkin of nuthin about my suroundings. so i get the light to kick on, and look around as i drop the hood. there was like 8-10 people at one house in the drive way. and on the other side of the road was another drive way set up the same. i'm white and quickly realized that i was the MINORITY.... hoped in the car and blasted outa there.

got to thinkin later tonight... bout a weekago there were a few drive bys, and some gun point car jackings. but it wasnt all in that week, just remembering other things that have happend. looked like the projects in the movie "Menice to Society".
that is just sometin weird. that happend to me,

i feel this post because i grew up in a neighborhood in which it was 95% black and my friends and myself would be looked upon like some animals yes im white no im not saying drivebys are cool however if society didnt look down so hard upon people in this environment things wouldnt be as bad......... descriptions like "THE HOOD" or "THE GHETTO" arent what i would call great descriptions. example i being one of the few white guys from my area drive down the street and get harrassed by police not cuz my cars modified or cuz i was speeding but because i fit the "profile" of a drug dealer now i look nothing like a drug dealer but the police who have known who i am know that i hang out with certain people.... not bad people but mostly black people who listen to hip hop and where baggy clothes.... ive been pulled over had my car searched and everytime i ask what im being pulled over for and never do they have a good reason and a more times then not no answer at all.... yes its possible to be profiled and trust me it sucks..... a lot of times when we would walk into a store we would be watched and followed it really makes u realize how stupid people as awhole can be instead of saying one race or another.


btw snailin i am glad ur okay be careful yes there are rough neiborhoods but if u dont act so scared and go about ur business and dont mess with anyone(not saying u acted scared or any of the above) i assure u u will be fine and trust me i do understand i wasnt trying to make ur thread a flame war just trying to enlighten so please dont take it personal

I believe what the guy posted, im not trying to be an ass, I dunno I just get the feeling that alot of people judge modern day white folk as being 'racist' or sticking with their own kind, which does not apply to myself, I dont view people by skin colour.

When I was in Chicago last year, I was driving and stumbled upon the ghetto.. I live in Toronto, and there ain't shit like that here to the extreme of what I saw there... I was amazed by the fact that the steriotypes in rap videos about ghettos are actually true for the most part. I swear, I saw all of these things in a period of my 5 minutes in that Chicago ghetto..

- Running shoes wrapped around telephone wires
- Everybody was sitting on their porch
- Men drinking alcohol out of paper bags
- Flipped over cars
- Guy carring around a boom box on his shoulder
- Men lifting weights on their front yard
- Cadillac Escalade rollin' by on spinners

Dude Im black (well half) and Im afraid to even set foot in a hood. I grew up in a semi bad section of Providence (well back in the 80s Providence was the worst city on the list) and I hated it.


Thank god for suburban living and Cambridge though

Yeah Nigs....I've had issues with the wrong hood before. Man this one time I ordered a CIVIC hood and got a SUPRA HOOD instread. :-D

I agree that any suburbanite, black or white, finding themselves in the ghetto can be rather unnerving. No matter what, you're viewed by many as a spoiled creampuff that could benefit from a good assbeatin... Now, not all of the people in the ghetto are bad. Hell, chances are, if you got a flat instead of a bum headlight, those guys would probably come over and help you, rather than rob you.

It's a scary place though, if you've never been there before. Camden is only about 65% standing... and only half of that 65% is inhabited. The rest are burned out, boarded up shells of homes. I know a number of people that live there... many are immigrants. Others are just in bad financial situations. Thankfully, I DON'T know any gang members or drug dealers... and there certainly are a lot of them! All the kids from the rich towns go to Camden to score their various illegal substances. It's the city's #1 export!
