    "Us vs Them"

I was flipping through one of my old Car Craft mags and I came across an entertaining article...Us (true hot-rodders) vs Them (ricers) Here are a few that I thought were pretty funny....feel free to add your own.

    Us: stickers for contingency
    Them: stickers for extra horsepower

Us: buying an aftermarket shifter for the shorter throws
Them: buying an aftermarket shifter for the lighted shift knob

Us: installing subframe connectors to stiffen the chassis
Them: installing neon lights between the subframes

Us: gutting the interior to save weight
Them: gutting the interior to save weight, then adding 5000 lbs of body kit panels and stereo equipment

Us: installing fiberglass body panels to save weight
Them: installing fake carbon fiber panels for the racing "look"

Us: installing a cage because you just broke into the 11's
Them: installing racing seats with 5-point harnesses on a 17 second car

Us: adding a boost gauge to monitor boost
Them: adding a boost gauge to a N/A car for a turbocharger that never seems to get installed

Us: installing a free-flowing exhaust for more horsepower
Them: installing a 5 inch exhaust tip for the loud noise

Us: drag racing and burn-out contests
Them: stereo competitions and bikini contests

    Us: nitrous oxide
    Them: "noss"

Ahhh....I have a love/hate relationship with ricers, I hate their cars.....but the entertainment value is priceless, it gives me something to laugh at.

Sounds more preferable to me... or at least the bikini contests.

Ahh yes. Car Craft, I wonder if they still are making mags. I personally thought they were a bunch of old farts who were stuck to their ways.

that is very true about the F&F people but now some (cb7tuners) are getting some common sense. But that does apply to a lot of import guys. so but it is true but not all of them. when it frist came out everyone was like that. if someone here says they didn't have a rice stage then you are lying.

I didn't have a rice stage...j/k. Yes flashiness and showing off was the name of the game in import tuning. After a couple breakins the sleeper look became much more appealing. I actually removed quite a bit of rice off my car recently. The import scene was more concerned with looks back then instead of balls.

I can place my left hand on the good book, raise my right hand and honestly say that I have never gone thru any "rice" stage, I always have and always will hate ricers. Don't get me wrong, I've always been in love with Hondas and always owned at least one at any given point in time since I received my license nine years ago. I've always liked them and thought of them as reliable, dependable daily drivers, but when it comes to performance....it always had to be a domestic RWD V8. It really wasn't until recently that I started to realize Hondas as potential hot-rods. Still to this day, out of the all the Hondas I have ever owned, I have never modified any of them in any way. Altough I have to say, recently I have been contemplating building up a Honda hot-rod.....an ultimate balls-to-the-wall sleeper.

My car never had a rice stage... but I found a book from one of my classes with pictures of cars that I would consider "rice." I didnt even see FF until like 4 months after it came out since I knew it was just stupid bullcrap. I saw it for a fundraiser for my school or else I would have still not seen it to this day.

I went through the rice stage..... I had a "powered by honda" banner, "powered by honda" in chinese lettering on my back small windows, and I almost bought a BIG H for my back window (realized it would affect my ability to see, so I didn't buy it). I also bought racing seat covers and a racing steering wheel cover.

I will NEVER go back to rice!

I lost a good 20hp when I took it all off! < it was worth it though :P

Funny stuff. I never gone ricer either, never saw the point. I think it's because I look at things too logically and never saw a point in doing my car up that way.

LOL @ all this...I never had a rice stage and always hated bodykits, although I guess you could call me a ricer now w/my AEM sticker on the trunk w/no AEM product in use in my car. I've always been a laid-back, understated dude to begin with so all that flashy poor-fitting flimsy bodykit stuff never appealed to me.
