Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I use limewire. But I am having some excrutiatingly irritating problems with it. Let's see if any of you can help me out. I'm at college right now, so I have a T3 internet connection (ass-kicking fast). Obviously it's firewalled. Well, Limewire still works, and it still connects. The problem is that it d/l/s simple files at like 1kb per sec. The highest I've reached is 3kb/sec. There has only been one exception. I d/l'ed a music file from a guy w/ an ethernet connection at like 300 kb/sec. It was crazy. I've been d/ling files that have like 80 sources, but limewire only d/l's from a maw of 2 hosts at a time. Limewire is newest version, personal firewalls have been disabled to no avail, Downlod/upload speed is unlimited. WTF?!?! Can anyone help?

limewire does suck memory.. but never had a problem with it or kazaa. As far as the school thing, I am sure that they limit the incoming connections to a certain port or some yadda yadda tech talk shit. In other words, the schools network > you. What you can do is just go through peoples computers on the network and get music from them.
We did this all the time, but DO NOT use a LANscan as the school will be on your ass in no time for it. Just keep a list of all the good computers.Comment

yeah, I had limewire, I'm still trying to get rid of it. The uninstaller doesn't do shit. I'm using my college's free downloading thing called bizzaro. Sooo much faster then limewireShift_BOOST

I'm well aware of the risks I'm taking with limewire. Riddle me this then, what about bit torrent? I've heard mass raves about this program and horror stories from others sources. Anybody have any feelings either way? The way I see it, all these file-sharing programs run a certain degree of risk. In you guys' opinions though, which would run the least?
Oh, and I should mention that I can download files from IE and other www sites at like 50kb minimum. So whatever is making limewire slow is affecting just that.
Also, limewire has never really given me any real problems and I know of the infamous "851 kb" file. It's all over limewire. I stay away from those after an all-to-close encounter with a file such as that (I love you system restore). So no real worries there.Comment

You probably won't run into a problem if you use it for just music and videos. When you get into d/ling programs is where the viruses start rearing it's ugly head. Long story short, stay away from all files that are 851 kb in size. You won't regret it.Originally posted by zipcreatureComment

If you can find a copy, get Kazaa Lite K++. Install package file name should be kpp243e.exe. Might have a hard time though, the creators were owned in court by Sharman Networks and they demanded that all sites offering the above mentioned file be taken down immediately. my hard drive was recently sent to hell, i had bearshare and one day out of the blue i had like 100 viruses all coming form bearshare and i had to reformat my computer but not before backing up all the shit i had on it. pain in the ass so right now i dont have any dl service only because i don't want to take the risk again. i might actually start paying for it like off yahoo or something. i think its like $5 a month and you get all the songs you want...Comment

i dunno if anyones ever heard of it, but i use bearshare on my computer, and when i was at college, it downloaded really fast too. it has a lot of songs, vids, files, whatever u want, and u can download like 10things at a time.
u can get it at www.bearshare.com get the free version.
also, ive never used it, but i heard that DC++ was good, u can get that here

If you go to www.limewire.com then search the site for their forums you can definitly find what the problem is I use limewire with 56k and get 6kb per sec.
