    Quick Question...

Is it just me or does anyone else have a problem with getting $$$ to hook up your ride? I mean, I make good money but I either suck at managing it or I got $hitty hook ups on fixing up my car. I plan to do a lot when I get my refund check with 3 kids;-) but dayum, why not now!?!?!? Anyone else an unlucky turd like me with no money or are you lucky like that?...

interesting. i don't have a job, i'm still in med school. i try and buy generic at the grocery store, not go out too much, try to keep my bills low, so i can buy a few things for my car. if i had a job, i would hope it'd be a different story.

      I have job.

... But I certainly don't have three kids. and out of good taste, that refund check should be used for your kids, not your car.

Actually I take care of my kids alone and I'm not a total barbarian to to spend that check all on me or my car. Thanks though...

I don't have any kids yet (thankfully) but I did just buy a house (moving in on sept 26) and I'm in school full time. I also plan on starting a business by next summer (waiting for my partner to come online now, since his wife kicked me out of the house earlier tonight...)

Anywho... I managed to talk my mom into loaning me $4,000 last spring so I could get my swap done. My tranny was slipping, and I wanted to do the swap rather than fix the tranny only to rip it out a few months later. I managed to make enough money over the summer to pay her back already though, plus enough for a CAI and custom exhaust. I'm a waiter, and extra shifts are always available. I don't think I'll have any money to spend once I move into my house though!

Seems like most people who really hook up their cars do one of three things:

          1) Work their asses off to pay for mods, but live at home and have no expenses. Those people usually have some of the best cars. Usually college age, 18-23.

          2) Work their asses off to cover expenses AND their car. They usually don't have money for any other luxuries, and their cars usually look pretty nice, too. However they're often older, 24+

          3) Mommy and Daddy pay for all their stuff. Ricers. I doubt there are many (if any) on here, since what rich, self-loving highschooler would want a 10-14 year old car? Usually 16-18

These are just my observations and opinions. I'm not attempting to state any facts, or offend anyone! Honestly, if Mommy would buy me a nice new car, I probably wouldn't complain!

i am part of the mommy and daddy paid for my car but now its up to me to make it look good. and in response to the first question, i know how you feel. i work 30 or so hours a week and take in about 700 bux/month and i usually end up blowing it all or fucking something up so i have to pay that. but i dont really have any expenses and have been saving up....soo....H22A HERE I COME

As long as Mommy doesn't pay for all your mods, then I wouldn't put you in that group. :-D

very good observations! although, i don't believe that i fit into any of those categories... maybe a little of #1, but i don't work that much. i just save up a little at a time. it's taken me like 2 years to get my car to where it's at now... maybe when i get out of college and get a decent job, i can get my swap done.

that can also be considered a category... getting a good job due to a college education... thus, being able to afford mods and (hopefully) luxuries too. ??

You're a hybrid, my friend I'm actually a little of all 3. I only work part time so I can go to school full time. Mommy pays for school (now, after my first 4 years...) so I don't have that as an expense. I don't pay for food or lodging either (until next month, when I move into my house...) Plus my mom loaned me the money to get my swap. I paid her back (with a little interest) so I don't see it as a gift. However, I wouldn't have been able to get the swap when I did without her.
My car still looks like crap, so I don't fit in with that part at all

That's me! I work for MCI making a little over 40k a year, but when you're the only source of income in the house for 3 children (living 2 living at home, the other with her mom) it get's rather tight. I'm very limited to what I can do and most of my modifications are very light under the hood and cosmetically. By far the most expensive thing I did was getting my cat-back bought and installed, other then that, an engine swap is in the future but God knows when. Lottery time!...

Yeah, 40k is great, but 3 kids puts your tuning budget down to the single digits, I'm sure! Once I'm out of school, I hope to start my own business. MAYBE after a year of operation I can make enough to really do some work on my car... But for now, it's a $15k/yr waiter job and full time school for me!
Married by 27, kids by 29... if all goes as planned, that is.

Yeah, well, good luck with all that. I got a friend of mine that works with me AND he owns his own business(es), so he makes what I do PLUS some! It's all good though, I won't hate since he had to work his ass off for everything he owns. I still think he should give me his Kompressor Benzo though, lol...

Hmmm...I feel like I am the oldest guy on the board. I am 26, Getting married on Sept 20th.

I am hard core turbo junkie, I have galant vr4s mostly and loved modding them up all thru college.

Got out of school- now I have shitpiles of college loans to pay, our townhome we just bought and dumbass credit cards from college. So, I liquidated all my stuff, sold my buell, my 2 gvr4s and had to tie my hands from modding cars so I can just get out of debt quick. I wanna go back and do my MBA as well.

Its so hard...the 4 door GSR sits there in my garage and I wanna do all sorts of stuff to it. MY fiancee has a 2003 Focus ZX3 which I wanna mess with as well, but I know I cannot.

The wagon is my toy for now. I bought it since it needed some work done and keeps me busy.

Anyways, if anyone actually reads this. Thanks!

nah, i'm eyeball deep in student loan debt so i know how it feels. wanting to do this and that but reality checks in quickly.

well, 1 of 2 things will occur. 1) we get older, be more successful, pay off the debts and then have money to start splurging on our hobbies. 2) we get older and lose interest in modding cars.

it just takes time. and we'll appreciate things more when we work hard for them.

USC - thanks for understanding. I swear man, I kicked smoking cold turkey and havent drank for close 2 years now but modding cars is impossible to stop. I bought a chevy tahoe and I started modding that POS ....I need to find some kind of therapy group.

But, I know what you mean. I thnk once my debts are paid off and I have kids, I may just spend on them and then buy myself something like a M3 or even a Z06 and just drive it, do some little stuff to them like wheels and exhaust, maybe.

I am learning to be patient, its very very hard!
