Ok, well i was on my way into the city satruday night to go out to the bars and what not.... so on the way my buddy and i pull into a gas station/store... we go in... (were in there for about 15mins or so) and we get back in my car (in the stores parking lot) just as im about to start to leave a buddy of mine pulls in the story and parks right in front of me... he gets out.. starts talking to me and just as we are saying good bye i noticed a sherif's car pulling up behind me... my friend says to me "expletive... he must have saw me come into the drive way..." i guess when he pulled into the driveway he pulled the e-brake and came in sideways and the cop was on the road and saw him do it... so the cop gets out... and comes up to MY WINDOW and asks me for my liscence, registration, and proof of insurance... i had just started driving the car (cause of the turbo project witch took forever this summer) so he takes my stuff.. and comes back and tells me that i have no registration and that he is going to tow my car... my town office messed up my regestration (cause i had the new tags on the plates and everything) so here i am... minding my own business at a store and end up having to pay a $60 tow charge to get my car home... and i have to go to court for the regestration thing because its a class e criminal offence in maine... wtf should i do?? i mean.. i was in a private drive way not even on the road and he came up and started giving me shit... i need some help.. thanks guys....

Damn, sounds like a nice little mess you got yourself there. Listen to me carefully. It's not very complicated, but you need to do this right away. Do not call the court clerk, the police station, or anything... do not talk to anyone except a lawyer. The real work is done in court. Get out the phone book, check directories on the internet, and call around to a bunch of lawyers in the area. Describe to them your situation and find the one that sounds like he is most confident in taking care of your situation.
There are lawyers out there that will do the work for a good price AND get you off the hook, and there are also lawyers that will charge twice as much and do a shitty job. Get cracking and call as many as possible until you find a real good one.
Good luck.

This is true, Ricky. Forgot to say that asking people you trust is recommended. The last time I needed a lawyer though, I just used good judgement and was able to get a good feel for what they knew they could do and such by talking directly to the lawyer that would be representing me in court. I literally could have chosen someone else and instead of getting a ticket dropped like I did, paid twice as much and only got the ticket reduced.

Lawyers are expensive! I should know (I have two). I've gotten myself into a lot of legal trouble. Anyways that is bullshit that cop fucked with you like that, but that is what cops do... I got taken to jail 2 weeks ago and had my car impounded for a noise ordinance violation. The cops swore up and down I stuck my hand in my groin area (thought I was hiding something). They couldn't find shit and still took me to jail and strip searched me. This cost me a total of $250 and my music was barely turned up. This same cop has arrested me 4 times in a row btw. So basically... FUCK THE POLICE. WE LIVE IN A POLICE STATE. Sorry for the caps, and good luck to you.Originally posted by DoctorCipherDamn, sounds like a nice little mess you got yourself there. Anyway...
Just pay the fine and be happy that you still have your car.
It could have been a lot worse.
Hiring an attorney is going to cost you a nice sum of money for basically doing nothing...
If you feel you are in the right, mail a letter to yuor attorney general.
And keep doing it if he doesnt respond, chances are you might get a partial refund.

Its wrong that you have to pay for a sloppy policeman's work.
I thought a policeman needed probable cause to 'pull' you?
Also, don't pay the fine and be happy. Fight back against the inefficient legal system some people feel is go great.
Its based alot on a police (A PERSONS) word. Recently the SAT was rewritten bc they knew PEOPLE are biased - and they were only worried about suble biases. Think how bad a policeman is.
Get your lawyer, or go in yourself and explain the situation. It must be proven beyond a "shadow of reasonable doubt" if you can cast that shadow your home free. If you explained it, and the judge is being diffacult then ask for a "continuence" (sp is not right btw its late) and then get a lawyer.
