I figured it out.
Okay my experience with GT4 when I first bought it, I thought I could just buy any rwd car and whip it around the corner. Well I found out you can't do that. Why? Well theirs something called the TCS controller. I know in GT2 when you press the e brake to break loose and whip it sideways it was easy. Well in GT4 when you try to break loose with the e brake the TCS controller kicks in. Hence why your rev drops even if you downshifted into a lower gear. If you can't keep a constant rev your drift will fail causing the car just to die. I found out by disabling the settings on the TCS controller. Like oversteer, understeer and traction control. Setting them to 0 I was able to break loose and whip the car sideways. I think thats why many said that drifting in GT4 sucks ass.
Okay disabling the tcs controller doesn't mean you can drift right away and trust me I spent countless months, day and weeks figuring out the right setup you need. You're going to need to learn how to tune the suspension, transmission, downforce, LSD and choosing the right tire setup.
This is how I go about setting up my car.
For suspension I adjusted the spring rate, ride height, toe, camber, and stablizer.
Spring rate, ride height, camber and stabilizer you're going to have to fine tune and adjust them accordingly to your taste.
What I can tell you is for toe angle if you want a better drift and it does work. I would recommend setting it to -2 or -3. I found adjusting it to -3 its harder to turn the car -2 is perfect you still can turn the car easily.
Transmission you would want fully race tune or close gear ratio. You don't need long gear ratios in drift you want really close ratios. Why? because you need to be able to downshift and still maintain the powerband or the rev. You want to be able to shift through gears without the lag. If you have long gears when you shift down your rev will drop too low so when you try to gas it it will just lag.
Downforce really depends on the car. I usually don't mess with this setting and if I do I adjust it mostly to the rear for traction.
LSD okay for lsd I would recommend 2 way for newbies getting into drifting. For hard core drifters fully race is the way to go. Let me stress agian I can't tell you the settings for it because you have to learn how to fine tune it yourself. Its not like Nitto racing where I can give you specs and you can go drift. Its all about fine tuning.
Tires. Well You can just go about putting anything on except like full racing tires etc. You want a tire that grips, but not too hard because if you do you won't be able to make a drift. Instead your car will just grip and we don't want that we want to break loose.
Okay I got the car tuned and ready to go drifting. People ask how do you drift? Well theirs many ways and I will try to explain.
I usually go about when drifting is before a turn say example theirs a sharp long turn right and your coming from a straight stretch. I would swerve the car to break loose, but timing it so when I make my s turn i pull into the right. before so I would reduce the speed I needed and stay in 3rd gear then I would tap the e brake or hold it until my car goes sideways then downshift and gas it while keeping that momentum and thats how we get drift.
Different variety i have tried is holding the e brake and gas when entering the corner. I found this usefull in short turns because your able to power it through without downshifting if you hit it at a right speed. Sometimes you end up downshifting, but your able to keep it going.
Another one is just basically try to hit a turn as fast like 60 mph and just pressing the e brake and steering the car through without downshifting or gasing it.
Breaking loose without the help of the e brake this one is pretty hard and easy if you time it right and know what you are doing. Before entering a turn you will attempt to make s turn like swerving motion or if you familiar with nascar like how they warm up their tires. Anyways you do this just right you can break loose before the turn.
Important thing about drifting is balance. You don't need a 500-900 + horsepower car to drift its not needed and its too many horsepower and you will end up spinning out and loosing controll. I recommend 100-400 horsepoewr cars. Horsepower is not all when it comes down to drifting. You have to be able to have control of your vehicle. In the end drifting in GT4 is about fine tuning your monster cars to your needs.
I hope this helps you guys out or so. I suck at explaining things. Haha.
