    Emission Tricks?

Well after failing inspection TWICE for my front suspension bushings. I finally broke down and bought new urathane bushings. I brought the car back for a third inspection, and the bushings passed......but it failed emissions! im getting so fed up with this inspection crap.

does anyone have any tips to help pass emissions? so far im going to try:

    1. Driving the car as hard as possible to warm up the Cat.
    2. Put that stuff from autozone that guarentees to pass emissions in the gas tank
    3. clean my EGR system
    4. Use premium gas

Also while im on the subject, afte the test i realized that my gas needle was below E, would this have much of an effect on emissions?

    Thanks

that sucks, if u buy illegaly usually they only last a half year. i would try to get it passed. sounds like you should clean your egr system, are you throwing a cell? is it on all the time? if its once and awhile you could have a bad O2 sensor thats fucking up when it heats up. but out of your list above to try to cheat the system your best bet is drive the car on the highway hard and get that cat HOT, and also use the best quality gas and dont go on an empty tank.

thats impossible, unless you ahev the exact same car here, the computer is what decides if you pass, the person doing it has no say at all, its not like the old days. and if the shop person tries to sneak around and not to emmissions the computer knows and will not spit out the sticker, the only thing that the inspector can help you out with would be suspension stuff, tires, gas cap, he can say those are fine when there not, but if you failing emmissions you cant have someone just pass you, i tried that and learned the hard way. i bet your egr system is caked up. clean that all up.

by the way, i feel bad for you dude, you have shit luck with passing. inspectors suck but they have a job to do and most dont want to get in trouble or have there shop shut down for fucking up and/or lying.

yeah...i have such terrible luck when it comes to inspection.

Even with the accord, I put the stock injectors/ECU back in the accord to try and pass it. During the test one of the injectors crapped out and the car died right there. Failed.

Someday i will have a legit inspection sticker. Thank god Emissions is Valid for 2 years, so i can do my motor swap and not have to worry about it

yea thats true, i dont have emmissions this year, so maybe i can keep my annoying exhuast for a little longer and buy a nice catback. keep me uodated on when/if you pass and how you went about it, mass inspections are getting harder and harder to pass every year.

get a magnaflow cat. clean your egr ports. replace your pcv valve. replace your o2 sensor. get premium octane at least half a tank. get the rxp stuff. replace your cap rotor and plugs. waste lots of money this year so you dont have to deal with it next year.
pcv vale and egr ports are very important for emissions. pcv valve is like 5 buck and egr ports is like five bucks for carb cleaner. "do it" plugs matter too. 2 bucks each. your cat is probably a pos. replace it with a magnaflow. 60 bucks shipped. go to atozone and get exhaust adaptors and clamps (<$10) put the cat in there, remove the old one. i'd get 2.5" cat since you'll have a helluva time tryiing to get bigger than 2.5" dp when you install the bluebird. trust me i know. we put a sr20 in my friends like 91 sentra se-r. dp barely fit. anyhoo autozone sells expanders/reducers. you can do it yourself. just be exact. good luck eric.

Thanks. im going to do a full tune up on the car and see how it goes. What pisses me off the most is that im ordering the motor in two weeks, and just wanted to get a sticker now so i dont have to worry about it for two years. I really didnt expect this much of a hassle with a stock nissan motor

You could always move here... no visual inspection... just emissions and gas cap check. Some parts around here don't even do that.

trust me, if it wasnt for going to school for free i would definitly move from this state, for the sole reason that it is not automobile enthusiest friendly. which really is too bad, because i could be out on the street spending my money on crack, but i choose to modify my car. something that doesnt hurt anyone

Solution: Move to NC. As of January 1 this year OBD-I vehicles do not have to be emissions tested, in all but like 5 counties. Safety inspection only, cost ~$10.
