Computer HELP! - Trying to install Windows 98SE

Who has advice on installing Windows 98SE on a used hard drive. I bought the retail cd from a computer show a while back and in the process of upgrading a old computer. Basically, everything goes well until it restarts and gives a DOS error message "type the name of the command intrepeter..."

Should the drive be partitioned as well?

    Thanks

thats strange..try reformating the the drive completely (needs to be FAT i think?), you shouldnt need partitions unless you want them

if you want, type: command.com (might have to type c:\WINDOWS\command.com when it asks for the intrepeter name. that probably wont work since it looks like something is screwed up, but thats the name of the windows command line interpreter

I highly reccomend reformatting with XP instead, if your computer can run it. what are your specs?

I'll see if I can find the win98 boot disc I made that has CDrom support & fdisk built into it. I'll post it here if I can find it.

At the command prompt just type "fdisk" and go through and make one single partition (or how ever many you want). Then when you're done, exit and at the command prompt type "format" and select the drive of the HD. Normally, the win 98 discs do not work unless you use a floppy boot disc that has MSCDEX drivers on it.

              Fixed.

I used the command fdisk /mbr which corrected the boot operation.

This is an old computer (pentium 1, 200MHz) that I wanted to connect wirelessly. In fact, this response is being typed from this 10 year old computer!

              Thanks for the replies.
