if you get an email from "paypal" that says you should verify your account info due to a third party logging into your account, then forward it to spoof@paypal.com because it's a scam....the link has a page that looks a lot like paypal's page, but it's not real and the address is soyscentsations.com or something.........you're basically giving them your account info and letting them have your identity

if i didn't know this by now i'd have fallen for it you cock sucker......that's the point....a lot of people will look at this particular scam and it looks official and is relatively new.....this particular scam isn't like all the rest.....there is an official "looking" email with a deadline to renew your info and even a link to take you to the login page that looks nearly identical to paypal's site and according to paypal, this IS A NEW ONE THAT SEEMS TO BE GETTING MORE PEOPLE THAN ANY PREVIOUS SCAM......so excuse me for trying to let some of the less discriminating members in on this before they give out their bank info and SS#......from what i've seen here, naivety and general stupidity runs rampant.....don't try to talk down to me......this isn't a scam that jumps out as a scam to most....even the address has the words "ebayshop" in it and a lot would see that and know it isn't paypal's address, but would see the "ebayshop" and maybe think it was ok.......bloweth me if you don't like the distribution of this info....paypal found it usefulOriginally posted by AcclipseH23If you didn't know this by now...then

This scam has been going on less than a year after Ebay's Paypal acquisition. That was years ago. Not to mention Paypal has links on every email telling you how to protect yourself from the spoof emails. And this topic had numberous extensive news exposure. So again, if you only found this out now...Originally posted by rickyduckworthif i didn't know this by now i'd have fallen for it you cock sucker......that's the point....a lot of people will look at this particular scam and it looks official and is relatively new.....this particular scam isn't like all the rest.....there is an official "looking" email with a deadline to renew your info and even a link to take you to the login page that looks nearly identical to paypal's site and according to paypal, this IS A NEW ONE THAT SEEMS TO BE GETTING MORE PEOPLE THAN ANY PREVIOUS SCAM......so excuse me for trying to let some of the less discriminating members in on this before they give out their bank info and SS#......from what i've seen here, naivety and general stupidity runs rampant.....don't try to talk down to me......this isn't a scam that jumps out as a scam to most....even the address has the words "ebayshop" in it and a lot would see that and know it isn't paypal's address, but would see the "ebayshop" and maybe think it was ok.......bloweth me if you don't like the distribution of this info....paypal found it useful

so you say it's old news, paypal emailed me today telling me it was "a new scam that they will forward all information about to the correct authorities" and that "i should inform others of this for their protection"Originally posted by AcclipseH23This scam has been going on less than a year after Ebay's Paypal acquisition. so i'm informing others.....you let paypal know that this particular scam is old news....they know nothing about it.....a spoof email isnt' the issue.....an email and scam looking this official IS an issue.......
i'm saying "watch out for the guy who kills people that walk alone after dark in City X" and you're saying "murder has been going on for years"
so go ahead, tell paypal you know all about this.......this has nothing to do with the ebay and paypal connection, it has to do with a 3rd party accessing your info, and you need to update it to protect yourself or they will cancel the account so the 3rd party doesn't mess with your money.....
so fucketh you

Your ignorance never ceases to amaze me. Paypal phishing became an issue after Ebay bought the company. In other words, Paypal phishing began right after Ebay bought the company. Reason being Ebay is the largest online trading/merchant market on the web. Ebay strongly promoted paypal as the easier, safer and faster payment alternative to money orders/checks. Hence the reason why many merchants/buyers signed up to the brand new Paypal with their bank accounts/credit cards. Which in turn increased phishing of Paypal account phishing. Phishing is as old as internet banking. You may still not be able to understand that, but I really can't break that down any further.Originally posted by rickyduckworthso you say it's old news, paypal emailed me today telling me it was "a new scam that they will forward all information about to the correct authorities" and that "i should inform others of this for their protection"

So again, nothing new. Instead of rambling on about crap all the time, pick up a newspaper once a while. Or watch the news. You might learn something about current events. Did you know we are in the year 2006?
Even better, aero's paypal thread tells a good deal about paypal's customer care or the lack thereof. They don't care about you getting ripped off in any way. If someone broke into your account and took money, try getting it back. I only got mine back because that person had the cash sitting in their account. However, my case was a very lucky case that took 8 months to process. So of course phishing is new to Paypal, only because they ignored it years ago when it was going on.Last edited by KillerCam282; 04-17-2006, 01:44 AM. I've received false emails from "fafsa" asking about my social security number verification.
