    Eating healthy

I have really started to get healthier lately. 3 months or so ago I started lifting weights and doing ab exercises. I also just started running for my cardio portion.

Along with the exercise I'm trying to cut out all the junk and fast food that I used to eat all the time. Basically I wanted to hear some suggestions from you guys on what to bring for lunch while I'm at work. In the past I would just run to a fast food place, but that is a no no now. Sometimes I bring sandwiches, but that gets old fast. I want some simple ideas that won't require a ton of cooking or whatever. Just stuff I can buy from the store and bring to work that doesn't require a ton of prep. I have started eating more fresh fruits and veggies by the way.

    Thanks guys.

I have done the same thing recently. Just got tired of feeling like crap all the time, plus I spend a lot of time at high altitudes, which just makes the problem worse.

I don't know how much you or your significant other cook, but you are better off with home food, as opposed to fast food, pretty much all the time.

If you don't cook, then salads, pasta, non-fried chicken, etc. are always good.

I have become a sandwich aholic in the last few years. Honestly, I always though they were boring too, but then I realized that there are so many different types, flavors, styles, that I started really craving them.

We have a place here in town that is called The Wildflower Bread Company, and it is basically a Deli/Bakery/natural foods restaurant. They have good soups, salads, pastas and sandwiches. Everything is baked fresh, or made fresh, so you may like something like that.

Also, a relatively small chain of restaurants that is rapidly expanding with very good healthy food is Chipotle burritos. They were owned by McDonalds (who bought them from the owner, who is still the CEO), but recently had an IPO of their own. They seem to be in most metropolitan areas these days, and I know they have gone from 2 locations to 17 in Phoenix in the last year and a half or so.

Why not use the george foreman grill. That shit does wonders ,tell ya whatcha do. You take some boneless chickenbreast . Season it up with some reynolds seasoning salt some garlic power just a pinch of it with some cinnamon. Then you take the other side season that up throw it on the grill let it back 5-6 minutes turn it over repeat. Then while its baking take some salad fixins or make it up yourself. take the tomato with some lettuce greenpepers etc with some croutons. And you got yourself the perfect get up and go healthy food for lunch in the morning. Read the manual and his video they got some good stuff in there . Hell you may even think of some things to cook on your own aswell.

i can't give any practical advice on eating heathy, but i will say this: avoid hydrogenated oils, high fructose corn syrup, enriched bleached flour (found in white bread), and any artifical sweeteners (aspartame, sweet & low, ect). eat friuts and veggies (the more colors on your plate the better). try to eat orgainic foods. the closer you get to natural the better. lastly, try to avoid heating your food in the microwave. later.

grilled chicken on a bun is usually fine from most fast food places, but mayo is bad....tomato and lettuce can add to the flavor and you still won't get a lot of bad calories

                fried anything is usually bad

a lot of sandwiches are also bad......hamburgers are bad......steaks are bad....the list goes on, but unless you are looking to be a model, SOME of the bad shit is fine.....here is what i do:

                -NEVER eat french fries.....pure shit
-eat more smaller meals instead of the regular schedule of larger meals, keeps the metabolism up higher and you naturally burn more calories because of it
-drink water, 5 cokes a day can easily add up to 1000 bad calories
-if it's sweet and isn't fruit, it's probably pretty bad for you

now, you want balance, the more bad you eat, the more cardio you'll have to do to stay fit, but if you're only going for healthy and not cut, then eat 5x as many good things as bad and you'll be fine, but don't eat a lot of good just so you can eat the bad......
....and on the 7th day, deevergote rested and called his mom.

an easy way to get omega 3,6,9 fatty acids (if you dislike most types of fish like i do) is to eat shelled hemp seeds. any health food store worth their while will carry it. one tablespoon of shelled hemp seeds has 5 grams of protein and is LOADED with omega fatty acids (good fats). after 2-3 weeks of eating hemp seeds you will notice your skin be shinier, and you will feel better period. they have a nice nutty flavor but if the taste isnt your cup of tea, add a tablespoon to your cereal.

this is one of the easiest ways to increase your intake of essential fatty acids which any nutritionist will tell you consuming omega 3/6 unsaturated fats are essential to good health.

to get specific i'm really trying to get rid of my expanding belly. to most people i look skinny, but all the fat collects around my gut like most guys. i'm sure all the beer doesn't help either even tho i only drink light beer. i do my ab crunches with an ab roller, but it still ain't getting rid of it fast enough. i just started on the cardio and i already notice a little difference. so hopefully if i stick with that i should get the flat stomach i want.

i'm glad i'm eating healthier for other reasons too. like my cholesterol has been extremely high for years. i'm sure the fast food contributed to that figure.

I say, always eat a big breakfast.
Not only does that get your body moving, it also get's your brain moving.

Now, im no health freak, but i tend to follow the ways of the hippy

My fav. meal is Breakfast. After a nice breakfast which includes a nice cup of tea, i feel so great & energized. My commute to work is so much better than going on an empty stomach.

For lunch i can suggest you make wraps for yourself...why not grill some chicken and wrap it in a nice sauce? a bag of chips and a bottle of water and you're set i say...

yeah i've been definitely eating breakfast lately. i usually have some oatmeal and either an apple or orange. sometimes i'll have whole wheat toast instead. the one thing i notice is that it seems to make me hungrier. i'm assuming that is because my metabolism is working harder.

fizz - sometimes i'll get a classic grilled chicken sandwhich at mickey d's if i can't figure out anything else to have. it's nice that it comes on a whole wheat bun now too.

the bag of chips is one of the least healthy, most fatty things around.....chips and fries are so bad i completely avoid them....no fries or chips in years

you hit the nail on the head, i have one friend who still operates under the misconception that he's getting enough fruits and vegtables from a couple "fruit & veggie" juice boxes. meanwhile he pounds back sodas and fast food like nobodies buisness.. and smokes cigs. im sure it will catch up with him sooner or later but he disregards everything most everything I've tried to tell him about healthly living (eating real fruit, hemp food products, excersing). theres only so much you can do to try to convince the people around you after awhile you say fuck it and worry about your own health.
