so i've always wondered that t-mobile always lists a price way lower then retail on the site and in-store (most of which are "instant discounts" and "mail-in rebates"). what i've always wanted to know is that do they HAVE to be activated with a NEW plan, or can they just simply be activated on my current t-mobile contract? now, i've asked a few people at my local t-mobile store, and they're all very unhelpful when it comes to this. whenever they come up and ask if i need help, i can tell they don't know shit and just want to sell me a plan/phone.

The idea behind giving you a "good deal" on the phone is that they will make the money back via subscription and add-ons usually and usually they ensure this by locking you into a one or two year contract, you can always purchase a phone without contract but you will pay MSRP unless you find a great net deal, a lot of deals can vary from dealer to dealer, most will take the hit on commission to give you a great deal to make up for the future commission from add-on sales and activations, my suggestion would be that if you like T-Mobile, get another contract or renew and get a great deal, if you like the service anyway there is no harm and cell contracts are very easy to get out of.

It's on a new activation, and usually just a little more money on an upgrade to the plan.
If you are looking for a new phone or what not then you could always add a line and get the promotional price on the phone and then cancel it out later.
PM me if you have any questions.. I work for corporate T-Mobile so I can also get deals on things on the side. I'd have to look up your account but I can definitely let you know whats good.Adam - Retired OG member from '03
