So after getting tired of using my wifes cpu and my win 98 cpu I decided to find a way to get my old toshiba satellite 2180cdt on the internet. It runs xp instead of nt or 98! It wasn't going to be easy due to my phone jack on the side was broken since I bought it, I did only pay $150 for it with two batteries(useless really) and the power cord and an laser mouse and usb adapter(useless when I got used to power-point or whatever) I bought it off a guy from the bargain finder that had a few others for sale, seems they may be "very-warm" but whatever! I only planned to use it for uberdata, datalogging with my wideband zeitronix, and for dvd's(it wont play dvd's yet, but it will! 
Anyways I decided to look into an external way, remember I dont know too much about computers and software, to get the net. In our household we have a wireless router with 4 extra ports, 1 of which gets my ps2 online! 1 for the wifes cpu and 1 for the win 98 cpu! My roommates cpu and laptops run off of wireless! but his cpu didnt have it built in, he bought an wireless usb network adapter.
So one day I ask him if I could try it and see if we could get it to work on my lptp. It took alot of different manuevers, but after two hours of playing and installing/uninstalling, we did get it to work!
So I decide to go out and buy my own, but for only $16.88 from princess auto! But to my demize it was an wusb11ver.3 his was the wusb54g model so the software wasnt the same, nor would it work.
Tried his disk, we downloaded the drivers and some firmware, but still nothing.
So I took a crack at it, and finally decided to go to the net for my prob.
searched and found a link to microsoft about the "device manager"
Well shit on me, it was found by my lptp but never activated or installed!?! so I went ahead and the rest became simply clicking buttons! Sweet victory!
Now can anyone help me with getting dvd movies to play on here? I am open for suggestions. Internal upgrades and external, but it is only and amd k-6 3d
with 466mhz and a lil 4.02 g hd! So anyone with some cpu knowledge it would be appreciated!
