I was wonderin what kind of performance magazines/literature are really helpful, some have 90 percent advertisments and others seem pretty helpful. I was just at Borders looking at some of their selections and wanted some advice on what other people find useful for car modifications and other car related information.

honda tuning is great. so is sport compact car. and b scene has some good reading. dont like anything else. my opinion is if i wanted to see half naked chicks on everypage id buy a porno mag. if i wanna read about cars i buy a car mag. point being most mags try and use models to sell a product. just doesnt do it for me.Finally Up and Running. Numbers to Follow. Check my MR

Like mayberry said, Sport Compact Car and Honda Tuning. Sport Compact Car especially. They have an editor named Dave Coleman who is extremely knowlegeable and always writes a section in the front of every magazine with very interesting information. Honda Tuning has lots of build-ups that get pretty technical. Both good choices. My Members' Ride Thread - It's a marathon build, not a sprint. But keep me honest on the update frequency!

I have mixed feelings about SCC. Some of the stuff in there is great, and some stuff seems like filler. Honda Tuning is great, but it's so small... I guess since it's so focused, you really can't ask for too much. Still, it always leaves me feeling unfulfilled.
My favorite (all around) is Super Street. They don't focus on Hondas any more than they do the other major Japanese imports, but I always feel that they give the best coverage. Plus, the writing is more entertaining than anything
Unfortunately, you won't find all that much useful info in magazines. The ads seem to have the most coverage of aftermarket parts, and they of course will give a skewed view. The mags themselves will never pan a product, so if they feature something, it's either good, or the writeup was well paid-for.
I prefer books myself. Take a look on Amazon.com for various books on subjects that interest you. Honda/Acura Engine Performance by Mike Kojima (SCC editor, one of the good ones) is probably my favorite. It's for beginners, but there are lots of things to get you started (or give you ideas if you already know nearly everything in the book). Honda and Acura Performance (or something, also SCC) is also pretty good, though VERY general. It's just a collection of SCC articles. There IS a CB7 featured in there though
Other books I have are: Maximum Boost by Corky Bell, Car Math by some guy (not all that great), and I had a suspension book, but my boss threw it out before I read it...

Most import mags are either too small or are too 'boy racer'.
SCC has content and is entertaining, not only that but it has a minimal amount of chicks in bikinis, which I feel is annoying when you're trying to read about cars.Former: 90 Accord EX Coupe, 93 10th Anniversary in Frost White

2008 Ford Escape XLT [bone stock]
2015 Toyota Prius Three with solar roof [rear diffuser, Vision Cross wheels... cheaper than steelies!]

That's not a bad idea... Of course, I have yet to get through Maximum Boost myself
The sucker is LONG! And since I'm nowhere near boosting yet, I'm still going over and over the parts I don't understand, trying to get it down...
But yeah, a book trade would be really cool Maybe even like a temporary thing... set a date when you and the person you trade with will swap back. Like, if I sent you a book on May 1st, you'd have it back to me by June 1st, and vice-versa. The only problem is that some people would probably get screwed (so many people have just dropped out of site with no warning... one of those people is bound to be part of the book trade...) It's a risk you'd have to take, however.
I traded books with 93twodoorLX about 9 months ago... I got my books back, but I still have his
I'll get em back to you soon, Sean. (He's borrowing Maximum Boost first...)
