    single-letter domains

Yes, I was bored. I went looking for "www.(some letter).com" sites

    There are currently three:

    www.q.com resolves to Qwest

www.x.com resolves to PayPal --- has for several years

    www.z.com resolves to Nissan USA's Z-car page

You may now resume whatever it was in your life you were doing.

Well, yeah, like I said I was bored, so I went through the alphabet. I would assume that if a domain is available, it wouldn't cost any more than any other domain.

I mean, the rest went absolutely nowhere, not even "this domain for sale" placeholder sites. GoDaddy.com does domains for less than $10/yr still I think.

Oh wow, really? Why? Who owns or controls them? I was under the impression that as long as it's available and there's no corporate conflict etc., it was fair game.

I read this on google like a month ago. Went looking for it but couldn't find it.
The IEEE regulates what can and can not be a domain, and until very recently they did not allow single-letter domains. I can't remember why though.

Go to www.whois.sc and start typing from a to z

It will tell you who it is registered to, and what it resolves to.

I believe all of the letter of teh alphabet are registered.

I remember way back (AOL2.5 era) when www.disneyworld.com was a porn site. Disney paid alot of money (pocket change for them) to buy the domain to redirect it.

                            www.phempa.net

I was using it as a temporary place for my site members to be redirected to when my dedicated server went down.
It's not really in use right now.... I have no idea what to do with it :?

                            I also have
                            www.deletebush.com
www.kindtorrents.com (letting a buddy run it for now)
                            www.shnflac.net

sometimes I'm just in the mood to buy domain names
