    Electric Car FTW ?

I've posted this on other sites i frequent and decided to post it here for some discussion.

I found this pretty interesting. Tesla motors is introducing the Tesla roadster due for deliveries next fall. Although an estimated price tag of 100k makes the buyer market slim, the advantages are clearly worth the price.
Here are some highlights...( the rest can be found on the f.a.q. page )

    - 100% electric

    - 0-60 around 4 seconds

    - 135mpg equivalent

    - 250miles per charge

    - Completely charges in abour 3.5hrs using HOME KIT ( setup in your garage to use normal outlets ), set it at night and your prepared for another 250 miles the next day.

    - No door handles on purpose ( for the cosmetic ppl lol... )
Explanation: The car has no visible door handles because the latches are released electrically by a discrete touchpad located in the shoulder intake duct. The door only opens when 'allowed' to by the VMS (Vehicle Management System), the car's main computer. When you lock the car from your remote key the VMS disables the door handle, making it much harder to break into the car since there is no mechanical lock to tamper with.

    - Two speed transmission, Which i guess can be a gift and a curse for some of the gear bangers ( think of " high " and " low " when playing Outrun in the arcades lol )

    - Battery lasts 500 charges, @ 250mpc ( miles per charge as i call it ) it'll last an estimated 100k realistic miles depending on driving style. At which point you can just purchase a new one ( not to mention the batteries are enviormentally friendly ).

    - Peak torque begins at zero rpm and stays powerful beyond 13,000 rpm

My computer is acting really *** so i can't put up the pics or the fabbed dyno pic they have on their site but it looks pretty good. Just wanted to know if anyone has heard about it or has any other reviews of it.

Check the link and lemme know what ya think...

Oh and here's pic and vid of the car.

Sounds cool. I wander how much a new battery costs? the only think i hate is im one of those ppl that id be constantly re-charging/shortlifing the battery. Like id plug it in at night, and go drive and just my luck, by the end of the night, id need to go somewhere but couldnt cuz the car needed charging

I wanna hear that 13.5k Redline.

Impressed by their "watermelon" sized motor.

Interior seems pretty basic (except for the stereo system and the VDS).

Looks like I better start saving up.

I wonder if it will actually get to the market... or end up mysteriously dissapearing as many peoples ideas do once the gov't gets ahold of them.

There are so many people that run cars on grease, water, and electricity, and you are telling me that multi billion dollar companies cant figure out a way. They wont get one out until there really is no more oil on the planet. It is a hot looking car though.

Well the orders are scheduled for next fall, so unless the gov't seizes ppl's cars before they get them, these will be on the road. I find it interesting that if this becomes more frequent, by 2015 we could have car companies making more affordable cars of this type. The future has been here for some time but i think now it may actually be coming out to the masses. I for one would love this car ( not the price tag of course, nor the possible maintenance fees ) but the idea of the possibilites this car can do for society not to mention the planet makes it worth it IMO.

And cpmike, why do you think it's ftl ? The only downside to something like this is maintenance it seems along with the price tag. Both of which will probably become way more resonable provided this catches on.

I saw something on TV about tesla motors recently. esentially, they want to (and are) making a fast, fun and efficient car for enthusiasts with money to burn. if people buy bugattis for some truly insane pricetag, selling one of these innovative marvels of modern technology for $95,000 seems like a piece of cake.

over time they do intend to build an economy car with this technology. when they go over the price breakdown of the car you understand that the current limitation is the price of the batteries. and also, use in cold climates. when these 2 hurdles are overcome, would i ever like to see the result.
