    **HELP** my computer resets itself

just started 2 days ago. i was sitting at my computer just chatting online, and then the monitor flashes off for a second and the computer resets... almost as if the power went out for a split second.

then everything reboots and now its working fine again.

while using the computer i never notice anything out of the ordinary, it works as it should.

what could it be? i recently replaced the heatsink, and its running cool, so its not an overheating reset issue.

This happened to me when my Video car wasn't on tight. I had to take it out and put it back it, and made sure it latched. LOL

check and see if any accessory cards, plugs etc are installed right.

only other thing i can think of is a trojan, malware etc...

    good luck

damn. well im going to assume its not a card issue. i havent touched them for a long time, every since they were installed.

no chance it could be a powersupply going out or anything like that? ive run scans on my computer recently, and nothing came up. according to the software i was running, my computer is clean.

Have you tried Hijack This! ? And have you tried running you scan programs in safe mode?

Im not too sure about the power supply thing, it could be, but ive never seen a problem like that.

        just trying to help, homie

Did you get any kind of a blue screen before it restarted?

And has it only done it once?

It could be a power supply, but if you did get a blue screen for a split second before it restarted, it'll tell you whats wrong. (Typically the blue screen will show then just restart. But you can change the settings so it will stay on the blue screen before restarting.... allowing you to see whats wrong).

Where do you go to change the settings?

no blue screen. just an instant shutdown/reset. as it was restarting, it checked for disk errors, as if i had improperly shutdown windows.

yo DrLovesKuDang , does your hard drive have bad sectors? if it has it will surely do that. Otherwise could be the power supply. If no solution is found. System Recover will be the final option. Reformat and reinstall windows would be better. But dont do it yet lol..

you can do a check disk on safe mode with command prompt. to avoid improper shutdown.

you are using winxp right?? if yes follow these..

                    restart computer.

                    - keep pressing F8 until a selection of start-up choices.
                    - choose safe-mode with sommand prompt
                    - choose win xp
                    - wait for the start-up
                    - cmd.exe shows-up
                    - should be like this C:\Documents and Settings\ _
                    - or it could be just C:\
                    - type chkdsk
                    - wait for it
                    - results show up
                    - then press crtl+alt+del to restart pc.

                    hope this helps.

this can be caused by millions of things but i really think its your new heat sink.
try this go to run type sysdm.cpl go to advance tab ----> then go to start up recovery ----> system failer and UNCHECK automaticaly restart ,now if pc just restarts with out giving blue screens , it has to do with power supply or heat( maybe chip creep aka things are loose ex:ram, vid card, ide, etc)

Not my fault my dick only fits magnums.
Why drink and drive when you can smoke and FLY?

I was gonna suspect the heatsink myself. Sounds like typical restart due to component overheating. If you can, monitor the computer temps. Download and run speedfan

                        http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php

and monitor the different temps and speeds of the fans. The ones to watch are cpu temp, chipset temp, and video card temp, as well as the system fan speed.

report back those if you try this

on the stairs, she grabs my arm, says whats up,
where you been, is something wrong?
i try to just smile, and say everything’s fine.

ok, well if it is an issue with the heatsink, thats news to me. i recently replaced it cause my system was running very hot. ever since i put a new one in, its been running 20c cooler.

installed speedfan and here is a current screencap of it.

anything out of the ordinary? i have no idea what most of those things are. maybe you guys can tell me.
