There's so much stuff you can use, everything has its advantages and disadvatages. I use Albumbase, Torrents, IRC, Boxden, and even Limewire sometimes lol

Thats where you go wrong...cd album sales have went up this year across the board. Why you think mtv, bet and most radio stations have certain artist album on their website for free listening with a couple weeks prior to the album release? Its all marketing......most leaked albums are leaked by record labels and artist to get feedback. Its all a game and i like playing it because i wont buy a album based on one good single, i need to hear atleast 5 goods songs before I purchase the albums. I , unlike some people still buy the original cds because the music/sound quality is better than a burnt cd, or just because i like the artist.

I know a LOT of people that just want the actual CD. They want the album artwork. They want the lyric sheet.

I don't really feel like I own an album when I download it... I have the music, but I don't have the whole package. There are still a few bands that I respect enough to buy their stuff when it comes out.

Downloading music isn't really as detrimental to the profits as they once feared. As you guys said already, it's just part of marketing. The smart ones use it to their advantage. The dumb ones bitch and fail Before I could download stuff, I would borrow CDs and tapes from my friends so I could copy them. Out of my group of 5 close music-loving friends, we would never buy an album that another one of us had. If one had it, we all had it... and most of the stuff we bought was used anyway!

                            ^^^100% on the mark.

So much of my collection resulted from borrowing LPs and CDs. And also taping LPs and CDs and then buying originals.

Lately I've been listening to AOL's "Full CD Listening Party" http://music.aol.com/songs/new_releases_full_cds

Each Tuesday the list gets (mostly) updated. It's a mix of just-released and older stuff. Lots of crap too but there's usually one or two interesting things there.

Navigation sucks and sometimes the links don't work but when it does you get to hear the full continuous CD. Sound quality sucks of course but that isn't the point here. I've already purchased a few CDs based on what I've heard. I just can't get a sense from 30-sec previews from iTunes.
