    Need Computer Assistance....

For those of you who know alot about computers, softwares, and antivurises, I need some ASAP help...

My Norton Antivirus that came as a feature with my laptop ended in December 12. I went w/o an Antivirus till today, when I bought the download upgrade for the Norton. I got the Norton Internet Security 2007, which was the most beneficial upgrade compared to the other options I was given....

anyhow, during the time frame that I didnt have an antivirus running, I started getting pop-up's everywhere. Only, all these pop-up's are for the same thing; antivirus software, spyware/adware removals. They were driving me crazy...

after installing my new software, everything seemed to be working fine. But the frikin Pop-Ups keep on springing up everywhere, some even not letting me open pages....one of the main reasons i got the antivirus today was because this shit is driving me nuts...

can someone help me with this? I suck when it comes to computers somewhat...thanx in advance

    spyware SD

    adaware

    spyware doctor

    check your startup entries

check any running processes that you don't recognize (google the name)

hijack this (be careful with this one)

run full systems scans for all those programs and your anti-virus program

try adblock for firefox or some other ad/pop up blocking software

on the stairs, she grabs my arm, says whats up,
where you been, is something wrong?
i try to just smile, and say everything’s fine.

I would go with adaware works very good

then after that I would use nod32 to do a good scan and clean any virus that is in there

I use spybot search and destroy works wonders. It conflicts with adware though.

..i had the computer scanned earlier today with the norton...came up with 5 threats, but all were contained. nothing else came up though. i thought that was the problem to those pop-ups...

ok, so far, adaware, nod32, and spybot search & destroy...now, do all these do the same thing, or one does one thing, the other does some other stuff...? ill let you choose wat is best for me...

i just checked my processes, and i had 1 trojan hiding there...which of these controls the processes of the computer, cuz i have alot of shit running....plus my computer got slower today than it has ever been...mainly cuz of all the processing....lmk....

I would go into your msconfig, and stop any processes that you don't need at startup.

spyware doctor is not free, unfortunately, but you can do a free scan in their trial.

you have to run adaware and spybot sd because they both don't catch everything

spyware doctor works very well, but its about $30, so that's your prerogative

instead of norton, I prefer avg free edition, and zonealarm free edition. I also use an old pc as a hardware firewall in addition to the router which uses NAT.

Even with all this you can't stop all those nasty things from getting though. In the end I've learned that common sense and routine maintenance catch and prevent 90% of all that mess.

(Extra) If you have virus scans that keep catching the same virus/trojan/whatever over and over, and its in a java folder, you need to delete all the programs in java's cache

sounds like just a matter of time and persistence, I'm sure you can knock out all the more important ones
