hey guys i just got a ref ticket
h22a automatic
I was wondering if i can get it bared now, or do i have to get it bared at the state ref? Or are they the same place?

Really need some help here, i already did the search and found what needs to be done.

I'm assuming you have a J-spec H22. All I gotta say is goodluck on that. I had a h22a automatic swap in my previous accord and tried to get it bared. 9/10 you won't pass visual for the following reasons.

1) There is no automatic H22 OBD1 equivalent car here in the USA. H22 automatics were only available as OBD2 in the 97up preludes.

2) For the same reason above, you will need a USDM ECU. There is no OBD1 H22a automatic ECUs...only OBD2.

3) The intake manifold is different than the US-spec as well. There is a blockoff plate where the air-purge valve goes. You can use ur Accord one...just take off the blockoff plate.

4) Also hole for a line that should go to manifold to the blackbox doesn't exist.
Although It can probably just be tapped.

I passed the sniffer but as far as visual you will not pass for the reasons above. That doesn't mean it's impossible to get a reffed....i've seen some instances of H22 autos with the BAR sticker. One was on for sale on e-bay awhile ago and then was put for sale locally in the bay area. Somehow they got it Bar'ed. I think the ref didn't know what they were looking at or they knew the guy because it passed the sniffer they let it pass?

Your best bet is to convert to 5-speed and run the usdm ECU.

i dont understand i have an obd1 p13 auto ecu so would that pass inspection?
And do i have to change out the manifold or just tweak it?

oh and another question, can i jsut sell the car or is it not allowed till the ref ticket it cleared?

Legally, it has to be smogged before you can sell it, so, no.

What you mean is, you can sell it but the buyer won't be able to register it until its smogged. Of course, getting smogged is a much easier affair than dealing with the ref.

No, not just a smog place. It is tougher than a regular smog. You have to pass both visual and test. Also, they check ECU for codes, and parts in the engine bay. Everything has to be within US emissions standards.
