    (almost completely) useless information thread

    useless information

    okay,

Among the wealth of information one can find today - through word of mouth, print, and the internet - some information, depending on who you are and what your interests include, can often be regarded as "useless" and pretty much insignificant knowledge.

These are facts that wouldn't necissarily prove themselves important on a regular basis, unless of course, you were presented with a question on a game show concerning certian pieces of so-called "useless knowledge" that could help you win an ass load of money.

So, here's some information that I'd like to share with everyone. Some of you (maybe most of you) won't really care, but some of you - maybe now, or maybe in the future - might find useful:

    1. Recording video on a retail VHS tape. (not a home video tape, one with an actual film on it) - removing VHS "write protection"

I'm a poor college student and I couldn't afford to buy a blank VHS tape.. and i'm not even sure if these things are still sold in stores? but anyway, i needed to record this documentary - the making of a specific video game - to present in an animation seminar class. So, after much research on the internet and having to deal with a general lack of information; and because my interest in recording video on VHS was really low as a child - I found out that,

IF you cover the little square-shaped hole on the back of a VHS tape, on the side opposite of the one with the door/flap thingy, your VCR will let you record over that tape!

    and,

    2. Shrinking small-size snack chip bags

some of you might find this interesting and may attempt to do it. i'm not responsible for any possible injuries or loss of property associated with this operation...

throw them into a microwave without any chips or crumbs inside and set it to high for 5-8 seconds, and it'll shrink to about 1/5th actual size.

i actually submitted this on YTMND.com last year,
check it out - it has images and sound:

so, does anyone else have any info to add to the list?
    if so, DO IT UP!
    My pictures/photos will return soon...
