This is the kind of Honda insanity we all love

The new Civic Type R was already regarded by many as one, if not the best of the 'hot' hatches in the UK market. If that wasn't enough, I suppose Honda had to go ahead and make it better and more powerful!

    Wow... just... wow

is a 260bhp 2.0l engine a new specific power record?

It's so weird to read that article and have that car compared to the Focus and Escort... but those cars are kickass in the UK (not just compared to what they have, but the UK Ford compacts are a million times better than the shite we get here!)

The roof scoop makes me think of a Pikmin, but otherwise, it's awesome. I would DEFINITELY drive one if we had it here! Well, if I could afford it, that is... I was afraid Honda wasn't going to make a hatch version of the Civic again, since the last Si was a total disappointment. They nailed the look though, and the power output is finally worthy of the R badge. I was impressed by 240hp from the S2000 when it was a 2.0... now this is even more powerful from the same displacement! This thing is doing NA what the Mazdaspeed 3 does turbocharged, as well as beating out the supercharged Cobalt SS and the SRT-4 (the old one... the new Caliber version should have 300hp)

The US companies are starting to catch up slowly... GM had a 190hp 4 cylinder in the 90s (it was in an Oldsmobile... Achieva, I think). It was a little bigger than an H22 at 2.4 or 2.5L, but still pretty decent for the time from a domestic. I think they turned out to be pretty reliable as well.

US companies have a reputation for being inefficient and unreliable in comparison to the imports, especially the Japanese. Therefore, they're still trying to catch up to the Japanese makers in that regard first, before they worry about power output. The advent of the SRT-4, Cobalt SS, and Focus SVT (which is trash, but they tried!) shows that the US companies are almost ready to stand toe-to-toe with the imports. I'm not 100% positive, but I'm prety sure all three of those domestic econo-performers use American designed and built motors, rather than motors borrowed from the Asian/European counterparts.

i'm not sure but this is just rediculous...I remember when people were going nuts over the fact that honda was making almost 100 bhp/liter many years back...now they are at like 130 and counting haha

More. The F22C makes 240hp, so that's only about 110hp/liter. The F20C also made 240hp, which was still only 120hp/liter. Now we're at 130 And that's STOCK. That thing can probably be modified to make over 300 at the crank quite easily... and 300 at the wheels probably isn't too far off.

                              I believe the SRT4 still has a 4g63 variant.
