i only watch fansubs when it's not available on DVD or on tv in the states.

Currently i'm juggling the Devil May Cry series and i recently bought Samurai 7 on dvd at Suncoast. I really want to watch Love Hina but it still costs so damn much per volume.

I also need my weekly dose of Naruto on CN.

If its released on dvd I'll get the dvd. I'm so much further than CN on Bleach and Naruto its not funny. Bleach ep 143 and I've finished the first Naruto series (220 eps) and I'm on ep 30 of Shippuuden. I was watching Bleach since Lunar was subbing it at episode 35, before CN even heard about it! But I've watch too far ahead to wait for dvds to catch up. Same goes for Full Metal Panic. I watched The Second Raid before the US release and I've read through part of Burning One Man Force and I'm not gonna wait till 2012 to continue the series. But if I like the show then I make an effort to buy the dvds.

Watching fansubs isn't like downloading illegal music. The fansubbing community and the corporations have a bit of an understanding. Hell, the corporations tend to watch whats popular in the fansubbing community and license it. And when licensed the more respectable groups take down the shows torrents.

                I'm guessing a fansub is a fan-done subtitling job?
I only have season's one and two of the new digitally-remastered version of DBZ. Its alot cheaper now, too. Before it was, what, 4 episodes on a $15 DVD? Now its $40 for 39 episodes. I also have the Street Fighter II anime movie and Vampire Hunter D on vhs. Need to get them on dvd. And I have the first twelve episodes of Gundam Wing on my computer. But then I've got about thirty AMV's (including one I made).

That's right. People take time out of their busy schedules to translate, time, edit, typeset, encode, and quality check. The sad thing is that some people still bitch when the fansub is late. I would consider a day or two to do all of this with the same and sometimes even better quality than the studios to be pretty fucking amazing.

Shadow, just download the torrents. You'll have to read subtitles, (Better that way anyway.) but you'll defiantly get your fix. Check AnimeSuki for current, non-licensed projects.

Check out Azureus for a bittorrent program, and CCCP for codecs. I would also recommend that you use the bundled zoom player for watching the anime.

Yep, I saw them there. I saw those years ago, before I even got into fansubs. Yet they are still still two of my favorites. Hell, Macross (Robotech) got me into anime.
