    Internet help

My internet randomly wont work....It will say I am connected but it wont let me do anything....I figured out to get it to work again I have to disconnect the internet then reconnect....Whenever I do that it works again right away....then 20 min later I have to do it all over again....Its not that big of a deal its just annoying.

Ive checked all the wires coming into/out of the modem and it all seems good....Same with the computer

I am not a computer guy so I have no idea what could be causing this....Ive done zero research...cuz I dont know where to start....and Ive done nothing to my computer for fear of screwing something larger up.

    Can anybody help?

We were having a similar problem on my brothers computer. After troubleshooting a bunch of things it ended up being his lan card (ethernet) that needed to be replaced.

on the stairs, she grabs my arm, says whats up,
where you been, is something wrong?
i try to just smile, and say everything’s fine.

Are you on a cable connection? If so, the cable company may need to add a signal booster to your pole. I had that problem at my mom's house a few years ago, and that fixed the problem. It might not be anything with your setup.

have you power cycled the modem and possibly router too?
Whenever ours goes down, a restart of both of those makes things good again. This may or may not help you, but its always worth a shot.

I do this maybe 2 - 3 times per day when I encounter the same issue. It always fixed the problem but it gets annoying for my brother and I.

I dont have a cable connection so I dont think thats the problem....Unless it does it for dsl lines too

Im gonna do what chessboxer suggested as soon as i finish typing this lol...hopefully that helps....If it doesnt Ill try and find out what my ethernet card is so I can update the drivers....Also its an HP computer.

Its wierd though cuz I have the modem connected directly to my computer but it doesnt happen to my parents computer which is using the same connection but wirelessly....so maybe it is the driver

                  thanks guys

on the lan icon on the your lower right hand corner by the time right click and try repair connections. If that doesn't work reset your modem and router.

theres an ass load of things you can try, I hate to make you run around, but...

resetting the components of the network-modem, router(if present), computer

checking the connections between all the network components

assigning a static IP to the computer (sometimes when multiple computers are on a network, one computer will try to steal the others IP) I have about 4-5 computers on my home network so I run into this often, I believe the way you're saying it you only have one.

Sometimes you can disable or at least change the firewall program installed, if you have one.

It's very useful if you have another computer you can test to determine whether its the computer or something else.

You can reseat the LAN card, open the computer, take the card out of its slot, check for any dust or dirt, and firmly (but not hard!) reseat it in place.

Grab the latest official drivers from the manufacturer of the LAN card.

Check the hardware manager for any IRQ conflicts.

There may be something else I'm missing, but my original recommendation stands.

on the stairs, she grabs my arm, says whats up,
where you been, is something wrong?

Thanks accord affair for all the help.

I reset my modem/router and then restarted my computer.....It seemed to help since it hasnt done it since yesterday morning

I noticed though that it would only effect my internet browser....My msn would still work and I would be able to continue conversations but not be able to do anything else online.
