yeah i think it was last year, i was out shooting with a bunch of my dads friends, and the one guy had 2 of the S&W 500 magnums, the long barrel and the short barrel.

he gave me the short barrel to shoot ( i guess he thought itd be funny ) and 6 rounds was enough of that for me. hah.

its a damn wicked gun and packs a hell of a punch. although they are a bit pricey, i believe he got them both for like $1600.


and a buddy of mine has a DEagle .50 cal, and thats fun to shoot aswell, definetly not as powerful as the 500magnum.

if you buy it, dont expect a good resale value. Nobody wants one, everyone who has one will fire it once and put it away forever. PLUS ammo = $1 a pop.

Yeah but it sure would come in hand for anybody fly fishing in bear country or during the salmon run in Alaska. Besides, you would most likely never need to fire that puppy in self defense, the mere presence of that large bore in someone's face is enough to dissuade most wanna be jackers. Fair enough. Pretty narrow market for the S&W 500... FN 5.7 might be better though. More penetrating power.

I would so love to get my hands on an fn 5.7. One of my club instructors was able to get purchase one along with some of that original so-called cop killer ammo. I have handled it yet but is seems like one honey of a pistol.

PLUS ammo = $1 a pop.

i think spending over a grand is too much tho. but you already have a de .50 so you dont mind spending the cash apparantly lol.

i got a taurus .44 mag, 8" ported barrel, 6x adj scope on top, which is more than enough to carry around out the mountains IMO. and with 380grain bullets it does the job. and i only paid $400 for it.

although i would love to have either, de .50 or s&w 500mag, i just couldnt see myself dishing out over 1g for it. id sooner see myself buying an ar15 or an m1 garand
