what's better? taking/earning respect or being handed respect?

    here's the 2 situations:

    situation 1
you drive a very respected car like an evo or s2000. everyone looks up to you and no one talks shit to you. "dude man, i wish i owned one of those..."
    therefore, everyone respects you automatically

    situation 2
you drive a cb7 or some old car. everyone is always talking shit to you and your car. "damn man, get a new car. I'll run circles around your piece of shit honda."
i know most of us have heard something similar to that...
then you gotta kick their ass in a race to earn/take their respect

    which would you prefer?
being handed respect or having to earn that respect?

somebody who has enough money to go out and buy a "respectable" car gets NO respect from me. any retarded fuckhead can collect money to buy whatever they want.

respect can ONLY be earned, NEVER bought

well assuming we're just talking about cars I personally prefer the 2nd situation. But Im sure at some point Im going to want a car like an evo or s2k. And then I think it depends on the owners. Of course there are cocky ones who think they are the shit by having a stock one and make fun of other peoples cheaper cars. For me I'll always respect all properly built cars and wouldnt excpect people to be all over me because I had a more expensive sporty car. I just figure at some point unless I always have a garage and can afford a project car I'll probably want something a little quieter, a little softer ride, a bit better gas mileage etc. And that may turn out to be a pricier, stock 'performance' car.

ill earn it, cus earning it is awesome.

its more like you go to kick their ass, cus they dont know what motor your running. and then they get the big WTF look on their face and you tell them the only thing that your running is a stock h22 and their all like no way, that think is fast as hell.

then i guess the comments "trash that pos" goes away, and "can i have a ride in your car" comes into place.

you earn respect, i never respect a new stock car, i respect someone who actually built it their own, did the research, and showed the middle finger to shops that install stuff for them.
