laundry soaps and fabric softner
carpet and room powder(one with baking soda in it)
Light bulbs(just in case)
Bleach
Make sure to clean your home before you move in, because sometimes the cleaning crews dont clean as well as you think.
In our apt, they didnt clean the shower in our room, and it has hair stuck in the drain. It was gross.
So make sure you clean before you move in. Just to be on the safe side
LOL!!! True that. When I went to my first place for the first week I had tv dinners stuff in the freezer like nothing lol. But that was because I was gettin accustomed to the place. Anyway do you know how to cook? That is the question. What do you like to cook? Buy whatever you need for that. Canned food is a nice item to stock up on since they have a long shelf life. What do you like to drink? Whether it range from alcohol to bottled water get a few of those and throw it in your fridge. Also nice to have some canned drinks when friends come over. But yea. Just ask yourself what you like to cook, what you like to eat, and what you like to drink. That should fill up your fridge. And as Jose said dont forget the condoms.
Buy plastic containers, tin foil, plastic bags, and anything that can contain frozen food. It's easy, cheap, and very convenient to cook more food than you need at any one time and freeze the leftovers. Then buy in bulk.
It's best to stock up on the canned and frozen stuff while you're finding a place for everything. I still have canned veggies and stuff from when I moved in! It's convenient when you just don't have anything, and you need to make something quick. If you do it right away, those places become reserved for that stuff. If you fill your cabinets with other stuff, you'll never make a place for the cans.

the way i do it....theres a safeway(grocerie store) just up the block, so on my way home from work, or the gf's way home from work, we'll pick up dinner, and after like a month....all the ingredients that dont get used add up
i find it an easier way then spending 400$ atonce, then having half of it go bad or moldy
