    Audi A4 1.8T VS 2.8

Im in the process of buying a A4 and I did some research but didnt get the information i wanted. I know the Horsepower ratings are very close on the 1.8T's and the 2.8L v6 (150-170-1.8t & 170-190-2.8L). My question is which is better and is there any problems i should be aware of when buying a Audi??

I have an 1.8T that i drive everyday....I love the 1.8T better of course then the 2.8. I would advice of course to get a quatro(all wheel drive) and then you can upgrade the turbo with a simple K04,change the intercooler, change the exhaust (sounds really good), and the upgrade the ecu with a chip. You will get about 235 hp which is lovely for a everyday drive. It is simple maintance. What year, how many miles, and what color. Depending on year of course you can run different applications but AWE tuning is a great place to get parts.

Here is link for the turbo upgrade

      I'd prefer the 1.8t personally.

The engine is ubiquitous, the block is stout enough to handle 250-300 whp, and like you said, the stock hps of the two engines are very similar.

Furthermore, the 1.8t is a good amount lighter than the 2.8, which matters when the engine is positioned as far forward in the engine bay as it is in the A4.

Finally, while the KKK turbo on the 1.8t spools very quickly, you can still get good mpg if you make the effort. I've gotten over 30 hwy mpg on the 1.8t. I've heard that while the 2.8 might get better around town mileage, the 1.8t can be driven to get better overall mileage.

Finally finally, you can hear the turbo around town and on fwy on ramps. Very cool.

Also, our 1.8t A4 has been pretty good on parts/expenses.

We've had a couple things go out (MAF, A/C sensor, CV joints, etc.) but we've spent well under a grand over the 65,000 miles which we've owned it. (65k-130k)

I've been seeing A4s showing up in the local pick your parts too, which is a good thing for us wrenchers.
