How is this for high tech engine technology?

    http://asia.vtec.net/Engines/LSERIESG2/index.html

Who says that the only high tech stuff going into engines is in the realm of performance cars?

I posted this because our Corvette ZR-1 got me thinking about how much technology really goes into engines these days, no matter what shape, size or purpose it will serve.

It would seems, Chevy is not the only one.

damn, i can only imagine what the s2k would be putting out if it was redesigned today

OUR Corvette ZR-1? As in YOUR Corvette ZR-1? Wow.

Didn't see alot of new technology on that page. BTW, CVTs blow ass.

The s2k is supposed to be redesigned in a few years. A guy just got hired from my school by Honda and he will be specifically working on redesigning the new s2k.

why do you say that? sure they suck for performance/having fun, but if youve ever ridden in one...damn they are sick as hell feels like a space ship

I think the two seperate ports per exhaust valve is kinda cool...makes it an 8-4-?-? and the internals are built well...
Damn put this into a larger engine and you'll get some better gains over older designs for sure...I mean think of how much more power vettes would have if they didn't use old tech (which is why I hate cam in block)...I mean they have to hit 6L just to get 400-500 hp...4L v8's in the import scene hit that easily

Val was correct. I meant to say OUR ZR-1 discussion in another thread.

You obviously didn't read much. The piston coating technology is first use ever in mass production.

The VTEC system is redesigned for more flexibility, and compact size with less weight, which makes it equivalent in size and weight to a non VTEC SOHC system.

The emmissions peformance, catalyst design and materials, the resonance tuning of the IM, weight saving and size improvements on the rods (even though the methods are not new). etcAll stuff that you would never notice.

PS you seem to be about the most negative person on here...perhaps you should be more open minded.

Not a CVT fan myself, but they do serve a purpose.

P.S. Not all technology has to be brand new to still be high tech.

Sure it's got a lot of tech. in it...and sure it's pretty neato...but that doesn't matter really because it's not even braking 120 hp...it isn't even hitting 110 foot pounds or torque...obviously put this into a larger engine and you'll get some better gains over older designs for sure...I mean think of how much more power vettes would have if they didn't use old tech (which is why I hate cam in block)...I mean they have to hit 6L just to get 400-500 hp...4L v8's in the import scene hit that easily

...so...did I miss something or was that the point...this tech. in a larger engine?
You are missing the point of the thread. Not ALL engines are designed for performance. This one is designed primarily for MPG, and it achieves a MPG improvement, an emmissions improvement, and a significant increase in power from the same displacement. That is a win-win-win situation. People don't buy Fits because they are fast. Especially not in the rest of the world where gas can be around $6 per gallon or higher.

Also, compare it to 1.5L of 10 years ago... this engine may only make 120HP and 110lb/ft, but that is about equal to what a decent 2.0 would have done back then.

yeah I did miss the point with my original post...I edited my post after I read the thread again.

I do wish domestics would incorperate some more tech. in addition to what they have already used...stupid cam in block...I mean...great...you've seen how far old tech can go...but vette's needing 6L??? I mean the F430 ferrari's are 4.3L and they are hitting the vette's numbers...

good stuff...gives me hope for my current build

It is better partly because of advances in technology, but the engineers deserve most of the credit in my opinion. Many companies produce engines incorporating new tech, but they still seem like an old engine with new parts bolted on. Honda's engineering knack is what makes them what they are. This 1.3 makes nearly as much power as my crx's 1.6, and nearly doubles the mpg. The crx hf made this much mpg but with almost half the hp. The system of disabling an intake valve out of vtec is older tech, the d16z6 and y8 had this I believe, in the early 90's. The crx hf also had the cat closely coupled to the exhaust manifold.

The cvt keeps the engine in the optimal powerband for acceleration, it can perform better mpg mileage than the 5 speed. It's an affordable get around people carrier that you don't have to think about to make it run good.

It's a combination of everything that works. It's the state of modern engine tech made cheaply and reliably. It's a Honda.

on the stairs, she grabs my arm, says whats up,
where you been, is something wrong?
i try to just smile, and say everything’s fine.

                            wow.

Im offended by your statement, mainly because I am currently developing a CVT system at my university.

Do you know what the latest CVT systems are capable of?

And, yes, the redesign of the VTEC system in the new L15 is something to behold. Better fuel consumption and more power and yet being cleaner, now THAT is improvement.
