    ongoing vss issue on cd5

    So heres the deal.

Original owner, 206k miles. No mechanical issues really have ever come up. Just general wear and tear. Car is well maintained and immaculate in condition.

For the last 6 months or so I have been fiddling around with this vss issue. Occasionally, my speedo doesn't work.

    So far I have replaced;

    -Vss
    -Ground for vss
    -Cluster
-Connection on the loom for the vss

And basically the only actual known issue was the ground- it had some corrosion. I ohm'd the vss prior to replacing and it checked out, but eventually I replaced anyways because this issue is still coming up occasionally. I pulled a cluster at the yard and swapped with basically the same outcome.

When I pulled the cluster apart I didn't find any burnt circuits, bad resistors or anything indicating the cluster was shot. There is no irregular resistance on the circuit for the vss.

I repinned the harness and put a new plug for the vss on. I was thinking that maybe the connections were shot, even though I checked both sides for resistance and found none.

When my speedo is not working, vtec still engages and there are no other symptoms of something going on. I have no cel's, and in the history of owning the car the only CEL that has ever come up was for egr lift/flow. I get about 30 mpg's and do mostly city driving.

So anyways, Im getting to a point that I may take the car to Honda, but thought I would ask around first.

    Thoughts/suggestions?

Did you pull a known working working cluster from the junkyard?

No, but I am considering sourcing a known good cluster.

Thing is, Im pretty good at looking at a circuit board and seeing issues. Both the original and one I pulled from the yard looked great.

My next move is to either source a known working cluster or take the car to Honda for a diagnostic.

Thanks for the quick reply though

Honda is gonna charge ALOT to diagnose it. try a working cluser and see if that works. could be that u pulled a faulty one. if u were close to me, we could try that one off my CD7 Accord lol

Alright you guys talked me into it.
I'm gonna pick up a good cluster from an auto recycler that comes with a warranty. It's kinda pricey in my opinion for a 16yr old used part, but if it works ill take it.

I bet its still cheaper than having Honda diagnose it.

          Any other suggestions?
