Stuck exhaust valve on 98 crv

The only reason I'm posting here is that other Honda forums are too slow, and not finding the tech support I so desperately need for this weekend project.
    I'm dealing with my wife's 1998 Honda CRV B20B4 1.8L 16V (DOHC).
This valve adjustment is strictly for maintenance purposes, I'm aware of recall and burned valve issues. Been there done that. Headed south for thanks giving, Sacramento to San Diego, did a basic tune up for da1k miles plus trip. No issues, even did a cylinder compression test, 150 - 156 psi clear across. It was a good trip, average 430 miles a tank, good respond climbing the grape vine, no loss of power.
Though my crv showed no symptoms of any valve issues, I was thinking I should adjust the valves as soon as possible, its been a good six years since they were adjusted. And yes, I had a burned #3 exhaust valve, took the head off & took it myself to a reputable machine shop.
So this is da deal, # 3,4,2 exhaust vales are super dupper tight, the lobs are off the rocker arms and spring head and I still got no room between the rocker arm & the cam. I unscrew open the adjusting screw all the way to open till it won't go any more. I got no spare room for the feeler to go into. The rocker arms won't move up or down (no play), but they will move side to side a bit. Its seems like they are stuck with spring compression in the up position.
Last resort is to take off the da freaking head and I want to avoid doing that.
All feed back will be considered, I'm desperate here.
    Thanks

To the moderator, Never thought I would ever say this to anyone, but this a first ... "thanks for putting me in my proper place". I was clueless as to where to go with this.
    Thank you,

Are you sure you have the rocker arms on the correct spot on the cam? And is the issue present on the intake valves too?

Im certain I am following the procedure to a T. Double check that the lobes are facing off/away from the racker arms. All my marks are lined up as they should be, double check TDC.

Im at it again, started adjusting my valves and ran into the same issue. Im thinking I don't nail this by this weekend, the cylinder head is gotta come off.
          Anyone have any better ideas?
          Thanks

Intake valve clearances will loosen up, exhaust will tighten. It has been this way on EVERY Honda I've done in the past 5 years. Re-do them, if the valve isn't too far gone you will be ok.

Re adjust them again for a 3rd time this morning, same M.O. procedure, but not the same result. I ended compressing the springs down to get the feeler jammed between the cam and the rocker arm. They are a bit more silent, more so than before, the tick is gone, but they are still laud, sewing machine sound. Still don't know why they are so tight, are they gone?

Id run a can of seafoam in the crankcase for about 500 miles and see if that gets rid of some of the varnish and opens up the tolerances. then run synthetic after that.

You 4 real? Have you had this problem or come across this issue in the past and had a successful remedy? Sorry for being a bit skeptical. I always run the wife V on fully synthetic.
Im still trying to wrap my brain around the Seafoam, could you clarify that for a bit more.
My cylinder head is clean, shinny and very well lubricated. I flush my old oil out (with detergent) and drop full synthetic.

yes, but apparently googling "1998 honda crv sticking valves" and reading the first HT link this is a common problem..soooo..
                        http://honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=2795822

thats good you run full syn all the time, that makes my suggestion moot since there shouldnt be any varnish/sludge. I even looked for TSB's regarding your problem but nothing like youve mentioned

and PS a b20 is 2.0 liters not 1.8. good luck.

Good write up, possible recessing exhaust valves. Will do the research.
Thanks, for helping out, this is a new theory for me.
