This "bump" is due to the DOHC design, to keep the lines of the original design for the eclipse talon and laser, they had to make room for the height of the cam gears and cover. If you look at Neon expresso's (dohc neons), sundance's with DOHC they all have similar lumps! It must be Chrysler corp thing lol!
I like it though it looks sexy!
I used to own a NA dohc talon, it was an awesome car, except for the tranny's I went through like every 6months, they dont like my driving style! But my accord, well this tranny is virtually industructable!

i'm pretty sure it's made like that to clear the cam gears because they're set higher than the valve cover...i think at least. look at the engine bay, you'll see what i mean.

thats what it is... although a hood with no hump in it will clear... my friend did it on his second generation GS-T

I dunno, but my friend's base Eclipse with the worst 1.8L motor ever had that hood bump and I'd bet money that his cam gears were on the other side. It was probably just for an intimidation factor, or the cam gear theory like peeps said...although...they could have just made the cam gears smaller

yea my moms eclipse RS has it too, Im pretty sure they just didnt want to design another hood without the bump. streamlining costs FTW!

I want a hood with a bump just like that, only i want it over the intake and i want it to be a functional scoop. But CF hoods, or OEM hood with a scoop like that are rare/non-existent.
