Sorry to break it to you, but a new ignition system won't make any more power...

*what happened to that MAX hypothetical HP threa using bolt ons from ebay etc. thread?*

but as far as beating a neon.. your best bet is to get high quality LEDs... way better than any neon you could ever... uh wait.. you meant the car..eh save your money for a good motor build... I/H/E, cam, head package, a6 IM, and some sticky tires...

or you could call upon teh d0n... aka wiKKed

Respectfully so, deever, I actually disagree with that. Going from a stock igniter and coil to an MSD 6A/SCI and Blaster2 or similar coil can (and has for me, on multiple cars) increase power AND gas mileage. It causes the same amount of fuel to be burned more efficiently.

On the highway, you use less throttle to maintain the same speed because of the extra power gained from burning the a/f mixture more completely. This is where the additional gas mileage comes from. If you simply floor it, then of course there's no gas being saved but you'll accelerate a little faster. All without using any additional fuel.

One example of this taking place is the first car I ever installed the above combination on (a 1992 corolla sedan, 4A-FE engine). Prior to the install, I consistently got 23 MPG. Afterwards, I was getting 29-30 MPG. I verified this multiple times at the pumps with a calculator. I could also clearly tell the difference in power. After installing the MSD stuff, the car felt as fast with the A/C ON, as it did without the MSD stuff and the A/C off. I had to switch back to stock once... I quickly noticed that the car was slower and it was definitely getting worse gas mileage...right back to 23 MPG.

well, that made me feel better. i am not putting a new ignition in it tho, just the coil, wires, cap resistor, and plugs. but itll still be good for some better accel and gas mileage right?

the ignition upgrade, will only help make it more of a clear burn. So there will be more power but not really noticible(spelling).

Don't listen to him. It is worth it. Go ahead and buy the parts you already said you are. The improvement with those will be minimal at best, but it's good groundwork for when you have the money to buy the ignition (which you should really do, when you can). You'll definitely be able to tell the difference.
