Acclude Vs. Cobalt SS ( supercharged )

Well pretty much i have been seeing this guy driving around before and every time i see him he is racing someone. well i finally got my chance.

we were on the highway going 70 mph. i put it in 3rd, as he honks 3 times. we both take off and we were side by side for a second and then he slightly pulled on me. shifted into 4th and we just kept pace. when we let out of it he was barely ahead. the front of my car was at his back bumper!

Not to bad i said, but then i thought about it. NA vs. Boost. but what do you expect from GM. oh well, it was a fun race for shits and giggles!

They only have 200 or so, if I remember right. And I expect a lot better than this sorry thing from GM. Went from the Camaro SS with 330? NA hp to this newfangled "Cavalier" SS with 200 supercharged hp.

I'm rather disappointed by the Cobalt SS. Factory FI that SHOULD appeal to the low-cost sport compact market, but the performance isn't that impressive. The Cobalt SS weighs 2991lbs, according to edmunds... and puts out 205hp and 200ft/lbs. All are manual. Edmunds tested the 1/4 at a pretty sad 15.4 seconds.

So, it's a close race power wise. I don't know if the torque difference really plays a part at those speeds... The Cobalt should have a slight weight disadvantage. Seems to me that the deciding factor at such speeds would be the transmission gearing, and -perhaps the powerband. The supercharged motor in the SS may have a fat powerband...

              Cobalt SS (from Supercars.net)
              gear ratios 3.38:1, 1.76:1, 1.18:1, 0.89:1, 0.71:1
              final drive 4.05:1

JDM H22 (according to a post by Patastinky on hondasociety.com)
              gear ratios 3.307 1.950 1.360 1.034 0.787
              final drive 4.266

well the weight advantage is a funny story.
We need to really look at how much our cars weigh cuz i have no back seat or anything in the trunk. no AC compressor. CF hood. Rotas
When i weighed my car at the track it weighed 2950lbs. with me in it!

Curb weight for the Cobalt is 2730 lbs.

also when i raced him i had 1 passenger that weighs 170 and i just filled the tank up

Go turbo like i did when i was comin back from the meet in conneticut to see soy and the crew all was not lost i missed the meet somewhat but on the way back home I met with one and he had his girl in there iw as goin home fast because i was pissed off being that traffic sucked. So i was like is that a cobalt SS i was like oh shit it is. So i ran up close behind him to investigate so then the heat was on.

I got up behind him literally pressing him by tailing him then blippin the throttle when i was behind him. So then he decides to speed up im now on his side hes lookin at me with this cocky look. so then i slowed down some and get bhind him again he decided to downshift you can see the slight drawback from when he did and then tried to accelerate. Im now on the passengers side of the ss and his girl is lookin at me and i gave her a wink and floored it just flying past them both while laughin saying cobalt my ass. The car looks hype but most of the time these car commercials be seriously gankin people hypin it up when its really not that hot to tell you the truth.

2730? I saw 2991 from a few sources for the SS... 2730 puts it much closer to us! Actually, lighter, I think! For as long as I've been into CB7s, I've never known the OFFICIAL weight of my car...

If you check the weight reduction thread here in the racing forum, you can find the weights of the various parts you don't have. AC, if FULLY removed, is said to weigh 50-80lbs (reports vary). The hood probably weighs about 15lbs less than stock (maybe more, I'm being conservative), and Rotas, depending on the model, probably weigh about 20 less for the 4 wheels. The back seat is another 15 pounds or so (that sucker is light!) What model is your car? If you have an EX, you have a lot of weighty crap on it! (ABS, sunroof...) The H22 also weighs something like 30lbs more than the F22. Maybe less... that's another estimation.

Oh yeah... Chevy Cobalt SS = Saturn Ion Redline

I've heard rumors that the Ion is a very close relative to the Civic (the 06 Si pics support this as well...)

Chevy cobalts are quick for what they are... but GM has an AWD turbocharged model up its sleeve...

AWD turbo GM? Hmmm... can't wait to see what that could be!

We had AWD turbo American before though... Dodge Stealth R/T... It's a decent car, but didn't catch on as it should have.

I wonder if this new GM product will be closely influenced by or related to any of their Japanese interests (as Dodge's Stealth was related to Mitsubishi's 3000GT). Or perhaps some of their European relatives (Saab 9-2x, perhaps? That's AWD and turbo, and lacking in comparison to the WRX, IMO.)

awd turbo GM... I smell recalls and problems like no other unless they step it up.

But Im pretty sure there is a Saab wagon that is just a wrx wagon rebadged or am i mistaken?
