    ***Racing from a Roll***

What up everyone. Have a question that definitely needs answering... Ran my friends eclipse from a roll the other night, about 35-40mph btw, and he took me by about 3 cars each time. From a dead stop I beat him by about 2 cars. So I think my "roll racing" technique is busted. Does anyone think so as well? Any tips on what you do @ different roll raced speeds? I usually just floor it while it's in D4. Do you think starting in the gear I'm in-according to how fast im going might help? Thanks. Much appreciated. peaCe.

is his eclipse a 5spd or auto? if its 5spd thats prob how hes taking you, keep it tach'd up while rolling then when you start its so much easier..

i have no idea how to do it in an auto, dont laugh at me but i dont understand how that stuff works with this d12 and stuff on automatics. Does he have a stick? but try what c11x said, the concept should still apply to autos.

The eclipse is auto as well. What do you mean by keeping it tach'd up? Keeping RPM's up? Thanks bro.

hey whats up man i have a 91 accord auto i love it
start off at 1st gear but dont floor it (when you floor it to the ground it floods it doesnt make you go as fast

1 put in first gear and step on it about half way then gradually as you taking off step on it a litlte more when you get up to 4000rpms
then shift into 2nd around 5500 rpms go a little more is you confertable

then in 2nd step on it all the way to the floor go up to 6,000rpms

then continue on third in sport three you will feel a little launch when you get there at 3rd gear

my car has the sport mode option so i can controlle the shifting towhere ever i want to shift at i do it at 6500 everytime i got it up to 6900 before too before shifting till almost the rev limmiter kickes in thats how i killed maple and most of my friends car that are 5spd

poo1side/maple 92 5spd ex beet him by around 5 cars
95 lude nonvtec 5spd beet him buy about 3 cars
my friends super slow 99 accord 4cyl 5spd lol i dont even want to mention and some integras some kids so called 160hp91 integra lol lol please budy i destroyed him lol
well you get the pic i realy dont even go into 4th at all

Thanks a lot, on your tip for launching. But it sounds like your talking about from a dead stop, althought useful, I was talking about from a roll. or were you talking about using that technique from a roll too? Thanks man. peaCe.

Shifting manually makes you go a lot slower. That's been covered a few times. As for racing from a roll it really depends on what speed you start from. Just try to start from a speed that will have you in the best part of your powerband. You should try to brake boost. Just press the brake down and give it as much gas as you can without accelerating. That will get the rpms higher for the launch and give you a little bit of an edge.

my advice would be...don't change gears in an auto It's a good way to drop that transmission.....thats just the downfall of an auto

if the eclipse is a rs gs u wont even have to try, those are slow

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

Seems the consensus is 50/50 though if you should "manually" shift your auto. I'm not sure that either works better. However, I wish someone had some 1/4 time slips to prove which one works better. I'm assuming just leaving it in D3 works the best and flooring it through the gears, with a slight teathering as the gear changes seems to work well for me. As for the RACING from a roll portion thanks for answering it. Seems the consensus on that is to be in the gear your suppose to be for the roll, i.e. don't start in D4 if you roll from 40 since it will have to downshift. Thanks everyone, and if you have anything else to add-please do. lataz.

ok check this out, i been shifting manually for a while now and really the only benifit i see is quicker downshifting to race.

upshifting its the same unless u really really time it right, which is very hard and you end up loosing time...trust me i tried for a long time =)

well as for racing starting in d3 there is no difference cause d3 only allows it to stay in 3rd gear when u are in 3rd gear....

if u are rolling i do this, if u know u about to race at like 40mph....i turn the sports button on( enables faster downshift than normal) and then once we start racing and after i downshift i take it out of sports mode and leave it in d3 so i can keep that gear, shit if ur dare devil enough downshift to 2

PERSONAL I THINK WHEN YOUR AT A STOP AND YOU BRAKE AND YOU REV IT UP TO AS HIGH AS IT GOES I THINK THE LAUNCH IS SLOWER BUT THAT MIGHT BE MY CAR I RACED DOING THAT AND THEY KILLED ME BUT WHE I STARTED IN 1ST WITH THE S BUTTON ON I KILLED HIM SO I DINT DO THAT NYMORE STARTING BY REVING THE ENGINE WITH THE BRAKE ON
