Exhaust ticket, NYC

Just got an exhaust ticket... I have a Greddy SP2 catback, which says is under 93 db and 50 state legal. Tried explaining that to the officer, but he said "that muffler is made to produce more sound, only factory and aftermarket exhausts are allowed." Again I explain, that my exhaust IS aftermarket, and sound legal He repeated same thing again. So any ways out of this? I've emailed Greddy for documentation saying its under 95 db, and they say they don't have any that will pass in front a judge So yea, any advice from anyone on it?

And also, he spelled my last name wrong. And description says "Unreasonable hone engine exhaust". WTF does that mean?

Since its just traffic court the judge will most likely allow what ever information Greddy can provide. Even it its an email directly form the company saying their legal. It can'thurt to try that route.

Also call the cop on it. when you go into court tell the judge that the office at no time tested the sound so he doesn't not for sure if it is above legal limits. and if all else fails tell him that states such as Mass have gotten rid of this law because they found it too difficult to set a limit for the 'loudness' of an exhaust and then actually test it on the roads.They also got rid of it because such exhaust can improve gas mileage and efficiency.

you could probably get away with the spelling of you last name wrong but i wouldnt bank on it, and i think the "hone" was suppose to be "tone"
this is what you do... if you know a mechanic shop that you are cool with go to them and ask them to give you a receipt that says that they fixed you exhaust system. take the receipt to court and tell the judge that you had it fixed and show them the receipt. If the judge asks, just say that your muffler had a hole in it cause you have a old car or some BS like that.
3 thing could happen:
1. it gets dismissed
2. the fee gets waived and you only pay the surcharge
3. you have to pay the full fee and surcharge.
From what i experience and heard of other people only #1 or 2 happens if you get the receipt.

Thank you for your interest in GReddy
The Exhaust systems do not come with any paper work for that and Unfortunately we do not have any paper work that will pass infront of a judge . what you need to do is because it is a cat back system it does not replace or tamper with any of the emissions equipment on the car and it was tested to Pass CA 95dba law and is 50 state legal in that case . you will have to take your car to your local State Emissions REFF and they will sound test your car once it passes they will put a sticker on the back of your ticket to show that it is under 95dba for sound . Make a copy photo copy of this sticker so that you can keep it in your glove box for if you get pulled over again for it . you will have to take the original sticker and your ticket to the judge and the ticket will then be written off.

i think the fee and surcharge is something like 90+45 or something like that, can't remember but it says on the back.

I got the pink ticket, the summons. No dollar amount or anything on it, says I need to go to court and then I'll find out

Not really. There's nothing illegal on my car. He even second guessed pulling me over. He put his lights on, took them off, then was like "ahh what the hell" and put them on again and got me to pull over.

damn bro I guess next time you listen to me and get the magnaflow oes muffler. Those white racist cops stay looking for the bling factor. Who knows maybe it was loud to them they look for shit on looks too . They figure if hes got enough to hook up his ride hes got enough to give some money to the city this isnt the case or the time right now . If you had the muffler like i have on my car now they would have looked and said fuck this and just left you alone becuase it would be a case that would be hard to beat. But since it was shiny they figured why not.

Also on that note everyone on here who lives outside of the city . Shit doesnt matter to these clown cops they will ticket anything to make quota . Ive seen them ticket an old couple that look like they couldnt even do anything literally so the cops took full advantage of them.the most youll prolly pay is 60 bucks tops if the judge is an asshol. Just give them a fix it reciept a legitimate one the judge will either lwer the fine or say fuck it dismissed. Let this be a lesson to you. While in court youll see the cops actually bust people for little shit that turns out big or cops that go hard for any little thing they can actually get away with that your not supposed to let you do but the law doesnt say that.

theres absolutly no problem with your exhaust. Greedy, HKS, Apexi, Remus, Magnaflow, Vibrant, and others are all street and state legal. on the other hand APC, Ractive and others are not.

Greedy made the exhaust to increase performance and also be 120% street legal. Because if they make it legal to put on and drive around, they will have more customers.

My dad owned a shop that had state and emission inspection. If the cars cat and system is ok and not rotting then it passes. muffler loudness dosent really matter. we have so many civics with apc mufflers that are loud as hell at night, and they dont get pulled over.

I seriously dont think theres a problem at all. Go to an emissions station, and ask them if your exhaust tone it legal. If they say yes, ask them to make an invoice to show the judge if its legal. If they say no, well trust me they wont. Greedy has been in busness for a while and they know there systems are truly 100% street and state legal. Good Luck!

i just got pulled over about a hr ago in Cold Spring for loud exhaust. The cop tells me that he pulled me over for a turbo exhaust then also pulled me over for following to close to a jeep cherokee but i just pulled from a red light i then tell him that i wasnt paying attention to the speed limit and i couldnt see it cuz of the suv. Then i told him that the exhaust has to be mroe than 98db for it to be illegal. then i hit him with that im a New York State Inspector for inspection stickers, so then he becomes cocky saying that he also. He then tells me that my back club sticker is illegal, then i hit him with its not cuz as long as you have both side mirrors the rear window can be blocked. so he also tells me that my stickers on my PASSENGER SIDE are illegal. then he looks at my inspection sticker saying that its VOID cuz 3 other months are punched out. the only one that is punched out is AUG. what the hell . then he asks me if i have a weight set in the back , im like what. he shines his flashlight to my back bars. im like those the floor bar and c-pillar bar . whatever then he saids do you have anything illegal that you shouldnt have? twice. this whole time im being relaxed. also tells me that by me having one wiper is illegal also. i then reply that this is my show car i really dont drive it that much. he tells me that you have so many violations that i can IMPOUND the car. he then tells me to sit back for a bit. then another cop comes. both cops go towards the cop car and they start talking ......................he comes back with in a minute and gives me back my paper work and tells me have a nice day. BOY IM LUCKY. i get out of my car and adjust my window(off track) get in the car start it up and revved it and took of normally. All this shit that the cop tries to get me for and he didnt even notice the front place aint even the proper NY Plate. my NY plate is in the back seat. fucking idiot .................................THATS MY NITE
