Find out the laws regarding noise levels. It's allowed to be under a certain decibel level. No brand of exhaust is legal/illegal...

And "actual gains like a catback"? What does that mean? Is your system a catback? Or did you slap a Flowmaster muffler on your stick piping?

as far as emissions go, anything after the cat can be replaced w/o having to worry about smog however, the decible level has to be below 95, and the cops can ticket you for it if they think it's to loud. It is then your burden to ttake it to a refaree and prove if it's quiet enough.

the cop said it was illegal because it was a modified exhaust, i got a fix ticket, even though my RS*R exhaust is quiet, the cop just noticed it wasn't stock when he pulled me over and added that to the ticket. i love cops

Cops in beverly are dicks. technically he is in the right for giving you the ticket. if your muffler was changed from stock in cali, it must have a CARB EO# on it. cops can give you a ticket if they think it doesnt or it breaks sound ordinance levels. i think beverly hills the rule of thumb is 50 yards. so if you can hear your exhaust over 50 yards away, then its illegal. im not sure about the actual becibles but just as a suggestion, down shift...if your rpm's aren't high then you wont hove the loud exhaust problem.

I have the flowmaster muffler on my cb7 and it does give it a maximum 3 hp 3 ft/lbs, dyno proven, depending on the day and its not ricey/fartcan sounding. gives a nice bass sound to the idle and has a great tone going through the rpm range.

exhausts don't requre a C.A.R.B. eo because they are after the cat. The only requirement on an exhaust is noise level

(a) Every motor vehicle subject to registration shall at all times be equipped with an adequate muffler in constant operation and properly maintained to prevent any excessive or unusual noise, and no muffler or exhaust system shall be equipped with a cutout, bypass, or similar device.

No person shall operate a motor vehicle with an exhaust system so modified.

thank you. there is no such law that you need a CARB sticker or stamp for mufflers. if there is please show me the black and white. you would need CARB stickers or stamps for equipment that has to do with emissions like all the junk in the engine bay all the way to you cat. anything after your cat is just a noise pollution reducer. you can have a 7inch open tip and have no sound comming off it.

flowmasters are not illegal, the sound may be illegal. cops have no way of testing decibles, so they go by ear. but if you can prove the cop wrong and take it to the ref and have paper work that the decible is lower then the limit then you'll be good to go. and plus you can keep that paper in your car for the next cop. i had a flowmaster on my h22. its pretty loud since its just a hollow chamber design and no fillings to supress the sound.

I apologize for my inaccurate statement previously. i have seen carb eo #'s on some mufflers and mine has one too. as a general rule i was taught that if it gives you more power it must be carb approved. and as to the question regarding an audio or movie clip for the exhaust, i regret to say that i do not have one but i will try my best to get one in the next week or so
