ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Is the CB7 Paint a dud? Help please =/

    Hi guys,
Were in the market for our second accord. However as I've been looking around i've noticed alot of Cb7's with peeling clear coat on bonnets and roofs.

This happened to our old accord, all of a sudden out of nowhere the roof started peeling in small places and boot, it grew worse quite rapidly and looked terrible like a sun burn. Just the clear coat i assume.

Looking around it seems it's just the blue ones having this problem, i mean i looked on the online car sites and i found about 5 out of 20 with this problem. I also found 1 burgendere colour with this problem.

We're really concerned about getting another accord for this reason, we really love the way it handels and looks and really want another one. We were hoping this problem was just with the blue colour but seems it might be a across all cb7's.

Just wanting to know peoples experience on this matter.

    Regards Michael

My 93 Burgundy LX is peeling really bad and my brother in-law's 93 Grey LX is oxidizing on the roof. Plus when I went to look at some others it seemed to be a pretty common problem...but nothing a little trip to Maaco wont fix.

      Maaco?

      =/ whats that?
Is this a relatively inexpensive thing to fix? I'm just concerned about it becoming a problem on the next one i buy and not being able to get it fixed at a reasonable price.

Do you park your car under, sun and rain? If so, then that is pretty much the problem.

The old one was usually garaged. It just appeared suddenly one day, and like bawambold said he's also seen alot with it =/

Seeing as he says "bonnet" instead of "hood", chances are there are no Maaco shops where he's at!

Maaco is a cheap chain body shop in the US. I had my car painted by them, twice, for $600 each time. I'm happy with it. It's not perfect, but the way I drive and maintain my car, I'd be stupid to pay a whole lot for it!

I've seen CBs with FANTASTIC paint, and I've seen them with horrible paint. The problem is that they're old, inexpensive cars... and have been for a number of years. The paint isn't quite as good as something you'd find on say, a Volvo... but it's good paint if it's properly taken care of. Most people don't take the time to wash, wax, and cover an old Accord, sadly.

I have noticed more paint peeling problems with the blue and black Accords over the other colors. The beige and gray ones seem to hold up better. White does as well, though I've seen a lot with no remaining clear on them (just hard to tell from a distance... aside from the lack of shine!)

Yea the guy I bought my wagon from babied it, and i've at least waxed it twice a year, so the paint on it is still in excellent shape. The black sedan i just painted, the clear was gone from most of the roof. Basically if you don't take care of your paint, It doesn't take care of your car.

The thing about white on our cb's, it was a single stage, not base/clear. So it gets sun-baked and loses its gloss after 5-6 years if not waxed.

All you gotta do to save your paint is wax it at least once a year. Best type would be a paste cleaner wax, cleans microscopic crud out of the paint and takes out tiny scratches too.

Paint is just like the engine, maintain it and it will last.

dude paint is paint I'm sure it's not just the cb's if you look around there is tons of other cars with peeling paint it's just a matter of your paint quality and your paint care.

My blue 90 LX is peeling on the hood and fenders. The previous owners had a bra on it, those things are a waste of time and money, all the shit that collects under them... but anyhow, my clear coat is pretty much gone... so, I'm saving for the "paint my car" fund

LOL yeah i'd say your right MATE lol
So are you saying the fix for this peeling problem is a complete respray? This is what i feared, i didn't know if there was a product they can just put over the old clear coat without taking it of to fix it.

Well not exactly, hence why i made this post. I've seen numerous cars older, cheaper, given much harder lives with yeah dull faded paint but no peeling. I'm concerned because 50% of the blue accords i've seen have this, sometimes paint issues are to do with manufactures, and sometimes effect single colours on single year models. This is our daily car, my other car is a skyline, now i've seen 1000's of skylines same age and even r32's much older, none, not a single one has presented a piant problem. And these things sit on the walfs for months in japan and here when there imported, with salty offshore breazes.

By wax you guys mean car polish right

Just slap some T-cut on it hahahahaa Thats THE stuff to use there right mate?

I like paste wax (polish?) myself

If you got a friend who does bodywork, just ask him to do a cheap respray on the car. Or get a quote from a bodyshop. Or better yet, look for one that someone already redid. I'd sell you my black 91 EX that I just repainted if you weren't so far away

I would have to say that most of the peeling on the hood and roof is due to poor care but that is just my opinion.

Hahaha that would of been great =)
Resprays are quite expensive over here, a cheap one well is the cost of a cb7 without the problem =/

I still think it's strange alot of cb7's have this problem vs older cars of different makes and models. I wander if the cd4's have this problem... then again they look pretty shitty
