ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    LED wiring Questions

    Hey people...

I'm gonna pick up a 50 pack of led's from ebay to do some accent lighting in my interior. Linky
    Resistors included for only $5

Any way I just have some general wiring questions. I already understand the basics such as polarity and resistors...

First off I have a ghetto diagram I created here...

The top I think is wired in parallel...
The bottom is in a series...

    Which is better?
EDIT: nevermind... I now realize that putting them in a series would make the 1st led 12 volt but the next 3 and so on... gah... looks like ima need more wire.... (what gauge???)

Ok. Next, I know cars output voltage is supposed to be 12+ volts... but isn't it usually higher like 14 volts or something? So with that said, Wouldn't I need higher resistors like 530 ohms?

Next, Where can I find a switched source? Like one that is on only when the ignition is in the Acc or on position.
Also there is the window timer that keeps power to roll the windows up or down up to 10 min after the ignition key is out. Any way to tap into this? (Id also like to tap the radio +12 switched into this...)

And finally, I'd like some way to be able to dim them... Is it possible to just pick up some radioshack voltage dimmer or do I need a current dimmer?

Now that I think about it I need to fuse it too...

    Thanks.

the one you made in Parallel is the way to go. dont do the series, they will be too dim
dont worry about the '14volts' youre thinking about, use the provided resistors, you will be fine.
the cigarette lighter is switched and you may also tap into the stereo's switched12V.

I would do series. Also not all LED's need the same amount of voltage so i would make sure your giving it the right amount.

        Sweet thanks

Any way to tap into the window timer though?

Window timer? you mean the courtesy light timer? I believe it's in the courtesy light dome.

im not sure how you can do that, or where the timer is.
just curious, where you gonna put these LEDs?

Nah man, if you have power windows take your key out of the ignition and you can still roll the window up and down for 10 min or until you open the door. Some timer must provide power to the windows...

Like under my dash. shining on the feet. I will also use them for the gauge face bulbs. Maybe light up the trunk with them I'll shave the tops off to disperse more light...
