Hey,
I was thinking about adding DRL to my car. After thinking for a while about relays and whatnot, I think I may have found an easy solution.

Looking at this diagram for the headlight combo switch, It seems it may be possible to put a switch between pins 5 and 17 thus activating the high beams, but not the low.
But I have a question for 90-91 owners. In the picture it shows a dotted line going to pin 18, but only for 92-93s. I'm sure this is to keep the lows on while the highs are on.
So for 90-91 owners, do your lows stay on when the highs are on?
If not I think it is very plausible to make switched DRLs by adding a few wires and a switch between 5 and 17, rather than relays and a DRL module.
Potential problems though would be that the switch would have to be turned on and off. Also there would be no reminder to shut them off after you leave your car... I think this could be solved by relaying the switch wire to a +12 ignition switched source...
The other problem would be when you turn on your lows, you will have to flip the drl switch off to turn your highs off. I think this could possibly also be solved with a normally closed relay though. (when the lows are turned on the relay opens the circuit, killing the DRLs.)
Just some Ideas... What do you guys think?
