ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Doing Primer

Im just going to primer up my whole car. I think it looks good and it will do for now.

How much do i need to sand before i paint? Down to the metal? or just a little?

    Im going for this

Yeah I searched. But i didn't see anything specific on sanding

you want to just scuff the finsh thoughly with the sandpaper. there's no need to sand to bare metal. also make sure there's no grease, dirt, wax, ect on the car before you prime it. use something like prepsol to clean the paint. later.
    Avoiding dirt at all costs

Instead of primer which looks kinda cheapy why not go with a satin black?

If you aren't going to sand it to bare metal you should be okay with a regular grey primer. But these primers do absorb moisture, especially as they heat up and cool down. The sanded paint underneath is also exposed to penetration By sanding you break through the protective seal of your paint, but is much better than laquer primer over bare metal alone. Your protection this way is minimal. If you strip it to bare metal you will be better off with an epoxy to prevent moisture absorption, and rust. You can get a gallon of epoxy coating at Napa for the cost of 2 quarts at a regular paint store. I have the numbers for this stuff somewhere.

Most people who do Satin Black paint jobs use Rustoleum or Krylon rattle cans. So pretty much it'll cost you the same amount as primering your car. As long as you take your time it comes out pretty good.

the look of my car before paint,
after priming , its best to Wet sand it with 1500 grit or higher , just to get it smooth, be sure to use wax/grease remover before paint

and don't leave the car primed exposed to long b/c it does absorb water and can create erosion underneath !!
