ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    tail light tinting

I just bought VHT night shades from some random website. I was wondering if anyone here has used it before and could give me some guidelines to go by.. should this be going on the outside or inside? obviously light coats but is there too many coats? how long to wait between coats...things like that.. Thank you!!

Light coats on the outside of the taillight. Spray as many coats until you get your desired level of tint. Sand the taillight first to avoid orange peel.

        Orange peel:

You want to LIGHTLY sand the lens to give the tint something to stick to.

does it matter what grade paper I use? does that mean I need to put clear coat on it?

I didnt sand mine either. They were done almost 6 months ago, no peeling. They also look flat black, i did 3 coats and originally cleaned the plastic with heavy duty paint thinner, then a bit of water and completely dried them... They match my car perfect, i love them! . I don't think sanding is neccesary, but i also dont think it would hurt.

Just scuff them with some red scotch brite (Made by 3M, available by the sheet at most auto parts, just ask for red scotch brite, about $0.75 per sheet), and scuff them out of the car. Do it until the sheen is gone from the surface of the light. Then clean using some wax & grease remover and just apply several thin even coats of the night shades allowing about 5 minutes between coats for flash. Apply using straight passes across the light, overlapping your previous pass by between 35% and 50% to insure no blotchiness or "dark spots" or "stripes". It WILL NOT look the way you want on the first coat, but be patient and take your time. Don't spray too heavy, or runs and sags will occur, and too light of a spray will cause it to have excessive orange peel or texture in the finish. Once the desired darkness is achieved, allow the last coat of color to flash for 5 minutes again, and then apply two coats of clear if desired. Thats how we do them at work all the time, except we mix our own black candy. Hope this helps.
