ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!
Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956
Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)
Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.
These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.
1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.
2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.
3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.
4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.
The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.
The rules for the overall forum can be found here:
http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/forumdisplay.php?f=144
Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

Removing Oxidation

the problem with your hood is not oxidation. Its called laquer shift or sometimes also called laquer check. Its a paint defect that is very common in our cars especially those that spend their whole life in the sun.
What happens is the clear coat did not have enough UV resistance in it and ends up oxidizing the color coat under the clear. the clear then end up loosing its grip and flaking off of the color coat

You cannot shine it back up. With no clear left especially if you take any sandpaper to it or even rubbing compound for that matter all you will be doing is sanding the color layer of your paint not your clearcoat like you would be doing on a car that has good paint.Originally posted by Falcon View PostIs there any way i could do it by hand for the hood? Or will i have to get like a brush to get the flakes out or off lol. This reminds me of Head and Shoulders lmao
I am very familiar with the problem with your car having tried to fix it on my own car at one point in time. I was a detailer for 7 years so i have a good idea of what can and cannot be sanded and polished. yours can not. you need new paint.

Dudes, sandpaper? That's just whack!
Use Turtle Wax polishing compound (green label, white cream). You need to read the instructions and put some elbow grease into it. Works wonders and totally safe for clearcoat. You can also try Turtle Wax rubbing compound (red label, red cream) if you want a heavier remover.
Claybars are much softer and won't work as hard, but will be less damaging on your clearcoat. But if you have 17 year-old paint, try the Turtle Wax stuff. My car had HEAVY oxidation on it. I used polishing compound and it shines (take a look below; sorry I don't have a before shot, but let me tell you, there was no shine and it had dirt bars running down vertically all over)

Dude you and I think alike i have some in the garage and I put some on the bumpers and now they look amazing, but i didn't put any on the body because I didn't know if it was going to harm the paint (like it needs to be harmed lol). But i did spill abit on the it and right now it is still shining lolOriginally posted by Lokheed View PostDudes, sandpaper? That's just whack!
