ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    curtailing rust

I have a small spot of rust (perforation through) in front of the driver's side turn signal/brake light assy on the rear quarter panel. It looks like I may need to spend more than I originally thought on mechanical issues, so I can't have the bodyshop deal with the rust just yet.

Any suggestions on how to stop this from getting worse till I can deal with it properly?

Rustoilum sells a product that helps the rust from spreading - it comes in a little paint like can in a form of a liquid which you apply over the infected area and it turns the rust black (Nuetralizes it from spreading) you can prob pic it up @ any Home depot/Lowes Etc

    Hope this helps

There are many "rust reformers" on the market. Go to a auto parts store. The idea is to turn iron oxide (rust) into iron phosphate (not rust). These are pretty effective. They come in rattle cans or brush on bottles and are usually combined with an encapsulating latex primer that you can paint over.

POR15 works well on rust. You could always grind out the rust and then paint with POR15. Once thats done, fill the hole and primer with some good 2k primer.

If I grind the rust out of this spot, I'll punch through the panel.

por15 is probably the best rust inhibitor on the market... You apply it with a brush. Sand it as smooth as possible, cover in por15, do body work and paint.. Should be ok after that

well just painting over it isnt gonna do anything. Neither will filling over it. At some point, you are gonna have to remove the rust and deprive any that is left of oxygen to keep it from rusting further. If not, you are going to get "rust creep". The rust will eat metal under the paint and move further than where it is now. Just my $.02.

yep, thats the best you can do right now. I usually spray a little white lithium grease when im in a ru, the bad thing about itis that it atracts dirt, so you have to mantain it clean and it doesnt last too long

There are no 2 ways about it....the rust is gonna have to go! How big is the rust hole? Take pics and post them up. Just to let you know, the hole is probably 2x what you think it is and it will get bigger fast!

Example: Wifeys car had a lil rust in the quarter that looked like surface stuff. A year and a half later it needs a whole new quarter down to the dogleg!!
