ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.
2 of 2 < >

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    How to repair this rust?

My '93 LX coupe is in very good shape in terms of rust except for one wheel arch, where it's relatively severe:

I've never done body work, so I'm not sure exactly what the best plan of attack to fix this is. Is this something I can patch with wire and fiberglass, such as bondo?

I hear glueing is superior to welding for a couple reasons. One, it's easier for an average homeowner to glue panels rather than weld. Two, welding panels will make them more apt to rust in the future. Heating up the metal does something to the metal (again I am a noob in terms of body work) that makes it MORE prone to rust.

after the new panels are on prime, paint, etc.

        Wow, great replies. Thanks!
I'm in college so I don't have a lot of money to spend on this. However I'm fortunate enough that my work study job is in the shop, and I MIG weld stuff almost every day, so I'm not opposed to plasma cutting out the new panels and welding new ones in. I was hoping for an easier way though, since I don't know how expensive panels are.

Best way is to replace the whole quarter panel.... however those patch panel from TAS auto and rustrepair.com insn't too bad.

Nice. I think I'll end up buying one of those panels from TAS.

If you never done body or paint before I would say go have a bodyshop do for you.. unless you can find some local Cb7tuner guys with body/paint knowledge to do for you for lil cheaper than a shop.

I'm pretty sure I can weld this no problem -- it's thin steel and I have a 240v Millermatic welder. I'm not confident in painting, but I guess we'll see how it goes in awhile.

And I can't really afford a shop. I enjoy projects anyways.

and you dont have to use the whole new panel when replacing the quarters, just cut out the appropriate pieces to fill in the damaged area.

I'd like to hear more about glue on pannels instead of welding them on.

I welded a patch in the corner of the trunk and I had a heck of a time trying to keep from burning through. Its ugly but no more water in my trunk.
