ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Rust Repair

Okay so this weekend I want to get going on some body work on my car. I live in new england so I have the privilege to quarter panel rust. Just some questions I have...

Has anyone cut and welded their own quarter panels? What type of metal did you use?

Also if I don cut and weld I will be using some fiberglass/bondo mix. Just looking for tips and suggestions thanks.

TAS Auto sells molded sheet metal replacements for the rear fender rust areas on sedans. The old has to be cut out and new ones welded in though.

Don't just use fiberglass and bondo, it will crack and break off in less than a year or two.

I have done my own 1/4 panels replacement.
Check my MR for the detail.

The made replacement panels so you can just buy some at tasauto.com or rustrepair.com

You must order the replacement panels first then measure and use masking tape to make a line where you want to cut. Then use a high speed cutter to cut and trim to fit. You can use fiberglass or regular bondo to.. however fiberglass is harder to sand but it is also stronger than bondo.

Yes, you can use your welder and weld it yourself. But if you never done metal work or bodywork before I suggest you have a shop or someone who knows body/paint do for you. Unless you really want to do it yourself... then at least do some pratice cutting, welding, bodywork and paint before you tackle the big job on your own car.

Yea i did mine. If you plan on welding make sure you lip it. Also just do spot welds if you didn't know too, its becuase the metal is so thin. I didn't know this and found out the hard way. Also i just discovered that i need to put some stuff called undercarriage to stop rust from coming back. If anything helped, great. Later

Not sure, I know I have seen panels for the coupes which run from the door all the way to the taillight. They go for $150 a side I think
