ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.
2 of 2 < >

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Painting Hubcaps Help

As you can see, my hubcaps (oh god how I hate admiting I have them) are in seeeerious need of some lovin.

I want to paint them, but have these quesions:

    - what are the proper steps for preparing and painting them so they look great, and the job lasts, and,

    - do you think painting them White with the H symbol Red is totally Rice/***/Fugly? Would it look terrible with the colour of my car (oem dark blue), would you point and laugh at me if you saw me on the street with them painted like that?

I've never painted anything for my car, or anything else, so all input is greaaatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!!!

well, they aren't going to look the best. imo.

    but.

you need to sand them down first. i don't know what g sandpaper to use, sorry.

    (prime it maybe? i dunno.)

then do however many coats of whatever color you want.

then put a clearcoat over it, if you want.

now, i may be totally wrong. seeing as i've never painted anything on my car either. haha.

    but.

sorry man, but i think i would laugh...painted hubs...that just isn't really all there...nah mean?

but hey. i could be very wrong. i've never seen it before. if you want to do it, and you like the look of it, who cares who would laugh? i wouldn't if i saw you at a meet. go for it.

Yeah i figured that reaction, but do you think I could even restore the hubcaps (HATEHATEHATEHATE saying that word ) to their original OEM, fresh-outa-the-factory, glory?

just lay off the painting, put the money you would have spent on supplys in a jar, add 20 every week, and by summer you will have rims.

well if your set on doin this then follow these steps...first of all dont do the red H thing..if you wanna do white thats on you but the red h is im gonna laugh at you all day. I personally think you should do black or gunmetal but thats just me. But anyway...sand the hubs w/ some 220 paper..prime them w/ some high build primer....let dry..wet sand w/ 600 g paper....then paint...clearcoat if you wish...i would recommend it if you want any longevity w/ your paint. Hope this helps...NOW GET TO WORK

It's probably overkill, but when I painted my hubcaps I put down some plastic primer first. I think that would help it hold up well, mine have.

                        lmao...

ok , all i used was some hobby paint and it went out well.. well sand it first (220 grit), wash , then primer then sand it again to smooth it out (600+ grit), wash and dry then put 3 coats of white paint (20 minute interval on each coats). then clear coat it .. i never got a clear coat on but im doing the whole hubcap thing again this sunday.

p.s. i hope u dont have a shaky hand on doing the red H lol..

                          White, White, or White?

                          Quick question!

Flat white, Gloss white, or Satin white?
