ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    Odd sub-amp occurance

First and foremost, I was cheap on these. Don't say anything about buying quality parts, because those are almost non-existent where I live, and I'm a poor college student anyway.

Hey guys, I'm hoping I can get some help here, I've been having a lousy past 8 or 9 days and these just keep puttin me down farther.

Last Wednesday I ordered a Visonik (I know they are cheap, don't comment about them, but thats why I bought em) kit. Two 12"s, a case, and a "2000 watt" (400 in reality) amp, plus wiring.

After fighting with the company I was buying through for a couple days they finally shipped, and I finally got them middle of this week. Installed them over night (I had really been looking forward to them, so I could stop using my 6.5" pioneers for dirty bass).

When all was said and done, I started her up.

    Nothing.

The lights came on (remote light, and power light. Checked to make sure it really was getting power by disconnecting the +12 and starting it back up).

I figured it was a dead amp (Visonik XD).

I let a day pass, and tonight I went to Wal*mart after work and picked up an Xplod amp. I replaced the Visonik with the Xplod and it's the same situation, only it rings! It makes a high pitched sound.

    I've checked the wiring.

(Using wire provided with the kit)

    +------50 amp fuse----------+12 on amp
    (freshly sanded) Ground------Ground on Amp
    Vr3 Headunit-----------------Remote on Amp
    Vr3 Headunit-----------------RCA in on Amp

I've really tired of fighting with this, I've got other projects I'm working on (like my tweeters, which have had a pink ring of bondo around them for the past few days while I deal with this.)

I definitely hear/feel a thump from the subs whenever the Headunit starts up and the system powers up.

Anyone have any ideas? Because this should be correct according to my understanding. (I'm a computer geek, electronics are a small step away)

    All comments appreciated,
    AJ

Is the power light on the amp red or green? if it's red, it may be going into protect mode.

The whistle sounds like alternator whine, which could be caused from a bad ground, or an issue with the rca cables. Did you run the power, remote and rca's on opposite sides of the car?

Where in Washington state are you? if your close, I could swing by and help ya

Green, sorry, forgot a few of the details.

On both Amps, the lights were on normal operation.
Remote and Power were run on the left side of the car (as is the alt.), and RCA's run on the right side. It's possible it could be alternator whine, but it's still there if I unplug the RCA's. (Or with trying other devices with RCA/3.5 mm outs).

I'm in S.E. Washington, I've got an electrician in the family I'm going to talk to tomorrow.

considering your running a extremely lower quality deck..(not knocking just stating) I would start there since you said the amp turns on maybe signal isn't getting there plus what are the odds that both amps are bad (visonik, sony)

In Need of an engine, just a basic f22a...pm me if you have one willing to part with.

I've had Visonik before. No amps but 12" subs. Honestly they were the best sub I ever had.

It took years of abuse and never quit. I sold the car with it and it's still goin.

I was runnin a Kenwood 1000 watt amp at two ohms dual VC with 1 ga. phoenix cable with a capacitor. It wouldn"t work with smaller cable or no cap. which leads me to believe that it was a high draw setup.

Anyways, I had the same issue on a different setup.

It turns out the amps were set to stereo not mono and I didn't see it. It did the same thing your describing.

Tried with the headunit, an outside radio w/ RCA outs, and a PSP with a 3.5mm to RCA converter. Same results.
Oh, and the VR3 Headunit has been pretty good to me, actually. 86 dollars with lots of features, haven't tested the USB or SD card but for the usual stuff it works great for the low price.

The only setting on them is for the filter, so that's a no go. However, it's possible that your on the money with the wire, I'll have to look into that.
Putting another hole in the firewall sounds like a dream come true.
I could try the cap, return it if it doesn't work.
(As it stands it's starting to look like I could have gotten a couple pioneers or only a little more than I'm spending now)

              Three questions:
              1. How did you wire your subs, parallel or series?
              2. Did you check the ohm ratings for the amp/subs, make sure they matched for whatever wiring set up you had?
              3. Does your head unit have a sub on/off or volume that you need to adjust? My sony h/u has both, and the sub on/off only shows up in the settings when the h/u is in standby mode.

The subs are each wired to their own output. (2 channel amp)

I have not checked the ohms, but I'd assume they would work with the amp the came with, or an amp that is 2 ohms stable on each channel.

I've looked for sub controls, I didn't see any. Made no difference when using a different device known to work.

                    Visonik was the V117SX
400 Watts max (was listed at 2000 watts max when I bought it @_@)

                    Sony was the... XM-ZR1852

I'm gonna take some pictures when I find my camera.

Sony amp only has the Low Pass Filter, and that's set for whatever it came at. Makes no difference if it's on or off.

Note: The Power is disconnected right now. I didn't want to have something go wrong when I go to work later, so I figured it's safest that way.

Any ideas on how to make them thumbnails?

What gauge wire are you using for power/ground? It looks really small, it should be at least 8 gauge.

And Photobucket has an option for thumbs when you click share and go to "Get Link Code". You want the "Clickable Thumbnail" for bulletin boards.
