ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    Extreme amplifer draw problems

    OK,

    Here is my setup...
    Pioneer DEH-i6000ub
    Crossfire CFA602, 300watts RMS, 600 max
Coustic 1244 DVC 12" woofer, unknown RMS, 400 Max wired to 2-ohm
8 gauge power/ ground to the amp with 50 amp inline fuse

Its been working fine for about a month, but my problem just came up today. Basically my amp has 2 30 Amp fuses that kept blowing. So I turned the gain all the way down and noticed with even the smallest bass, the headlights dim a lot... My main 50 amp hasn't blown at all.

My guess is its a ground problem, or my power wire is too small...

I need to do the big 3 I think, but where can I find the ring terminals for 4 gauge?

Whats your opinion on my problem?

The alternator could be slow to respond to the current changes. Do the lights dim and stay dim or do they just flicker?

        They flicker...

Before with the normal gain they would dim a little, but now even with the gain all the way down and the volume down they flicker like crazy during a bass beat...

up grade the ground in the engine bay and check your amp ground also... im about 90% sure you have a ground issue...

In Need of an engine, just a basic f22a...pm me if you have one willing to part with.

            Solutions:

            -High current alternator
-Check wire connections, power and ground (sparks can blow fuses)
            DEVOTE

the size of your wire is not the issue. i too would lean towards a ground issue. It is a good idea to upgrade the Big3, and it will help the dimming, but your fuses will still blow. check that your amp still has good contact with your chassis, make sure the paint is sanded off wherever you have your ground connected, and also make sure your positive wire isnt making contact with your chassis (bare wire that is, obviously the insulation can make contact).

Is that amp rated for a 2ohm load? That could explain that dimming issue. Did u hit a bump or anything out the oridnairy? Any more info is needed and wanted sir

Actually, I'm not sure what the amp is rated for! I cant find any spec sheets on it, just peoples opinions. Its a pre-internet amp...

The most recent thing I have done was take the bottom plate off and replace it with a sheet of acrylic... (I cut the area behind the rear arm rest out and you can see the inside of the amp from the armrest hole. looks amazing.) I have the amp mounted to the back of the back seat if you couldn't tell... Since I can see
in the amp, nothing looks blown or burnt on the inside.

I don't believe anything happened... I was just playing it at school, than about 3 hours later when I got back into my car after school it played for about 10 min at normal volume and than it blew a fuse... Got another fuse
                  and it blew...

Than like I said, even with the gain at its lowest, The lights dim horribly to the beat of the bass notes.

I just sanded the ground down to sheet metal... Its attached to the fuel pump ground I also added another 8 gauge to the ground strap for the battery, but its still blowing them.

Is it possible the amp is blown? It really doesn't make sense though because I never turned it up to the point of distortion...

Maybe a wire inside the box fell out?

Edit: I think It might not be 2ohm x1 stable... Is it ok to hook a DVC sub up to 2 separate channels? (so it would run 4ohm x2)

The way u worded that confused me on how u have it wired. But from what it sounds like u have blwn the amp. Playying it for a long period if it does see proper voltage it with blow. Still wants to cut on but blows fuse is a popular sign. Might be best to run it by the closest reputable shop and have then check it out. If it's an older amp I'm willin to just about bet it's toast . So just to make it clear the amp will NOT play right now correct?

                        GAH!

I think I have found the problem...

I went at the woofer with a multimeter...

The subwoofer has 2 coils, both show up as 4.2 ohms

Wired in series it shows 7.5 ohms

Wired in parallel it shows... 0.5 ohms! Edit: than drops to 0.2 ohms... as if they are connected...

WTH!!! Help! Shouldn't the parallel show 2 ohms?

Edit... Across the teminals it shows 4 ohms... like, say I connect the + wire of the mm to the
+ teminal on the sub, and the - wire to the other + voice coil it shows 4 ohms... I dont know if thats correct...

Can I just hook up one voice coil, or use both channels on the amp for both voice coil?

Here is how my parallel is wired... Is it correct?

You really shouldnt come up with .5 ohm load, you've some messed up coils or perhaps a misread on the meter. With dual 4ohm coils, as stated parallel should be 2 and series 8. I'd double check those grounds for the heck of it, I just hope you didnt dead short your amp with that driver.
